Milton L. Johnson

Milton Lee Johnson, P.E. (professional engineer), age 89, died Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon. Milton was born Dec. 7, 1931, in Lake Mills, to parents Selmer Melvin Johnson and Dorothea Adeline Ruby Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed in Asbury Methodist Church, Lake Mills. He attended school in Lake Mills, graduating from high school in 1949. He earned his degree, bachelor of science in civil engineering, from Iowa State College (ISC) in 1957. He obtained his P.E. certification in 1960.

Ronald Gregory Dougherty of Elkader passed away peacefully at his home on May 1, 2021. He was 61 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jean Dougherty, and his infant brother, Gerald. Ron was born Aug. 8, 1959, at Waukon.

Local gymnast wins state championship


Central fifth grader and Moser School of Dance and Gymnastics student Ella Frieden poses with her trophy after winning the state championship at the United States Trampoline & Tumbling Association (USTA) State Championship, which was held in Marshalltown in April. The win qualified Ella for nationals, which will be held in Rochester, Min., from July 15-19.
