Legacy Show Choir returns with another entertaining show

MFL MarMac’s Legacy Show Choir kicked off its competition season in late January, with a division one rating at state. The group will perform multiple times in February and March, including the MFL MarMac Pops Concert on Thursday, Feb. 23, and the Legacy Home Show on Sunday, March 26. (Submitted photo)

A year removed from its most successful season yet, MFL MarMac’s Legacy Show Choir feels a bit of pressure to live up to the bar set by previous classes.

“Us seniors, especially, feel a lot of pressure,” said Hailee Corlett. “We all want to make those past seniors proud.”

“Last year, we had a lot of really talented individuals in the group,” added Micheal Balster. “Not that we don’t this year. But we have to live up to that standard.”

The 25-member group hopes its show, which chronicles moving from darkness into light, will wow audiences.

MFL MarMac adding soccer

By Audrey Posten, Times-Register

MFL MarMac high school students will have the opportunity to compete in soccer starting next spring. The school board, at its Feb. 13 meeting, unanimously approved sanctioning the sport.

Athletic director Erik Peterson said MFL MarMac would likely field both boys and girls programs. Eleven players are needed to compete on the field, but he believes 16 would be an attainable number given feedback from current and incoming high school students. Several staff members are already interested in coaching.

Peterson estimated the program start-up cost would be around $20,000.

Additional details shared on Casino Queen Marquette project

General Manager Sean Bateman, at the Feb. 14 Marquette City Council, shared more details about Casino Queen Marquette’s plans to become completely land-based. This rendering released by The Queen Casino & Entertainment last month shows how the remodeled Casino Queen Marquette will look.

The Marquette Council, at its Feb. 14 meeting, learned more details about Casino Queen Marquette’s plans to become completely land-based.

General Manager Sean Bateman said the project, which will include a 12,000-square-foot addition to Casino Queen Marquette’s current building along Anti Monopoly Street, will start in July, at the earliest.

“The goal is to get it done in 12 to 15 months and be open by late summer or early fall 2024,” he stated. “But nothing has been put in stone yet on the timeline.”

Through this project, the casino “will come out of the water and be completely land based,” according to Bateman. “The goal is to eliminate the sky walk as well.”
