Prairie du Chien beat visiting Fennimore 42-26 in a nonconference girls basketball game Friday night. 

Prairie du Chien improved to 1-0 on the season while Fennimore fell to 0-1. 

The Lady Blackhawks led 15-8 at the half.

Not only did the River Ridge volleyball team play in the state tournament for the first time in school history on Friday, Nov. 2, team members have been getting recognition statewide for their outstanding play.

The River Ridge High School volleyball team finished an outstanding season on Friday morning as they took on Clayton in the State Volleyball Tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay. 

Defending State Champion Clayton defeated River Ridge in three tight games 26-24, 26-24 and 25-20 in the Division 4 semifinal. Clayton (29-4) went on to lose to Catholic Central (39-7) in three games in the championship match on Saturday.

Huser, Katzung run like the wind at State Cross Country

The Prairie du Chien cross country team showed their support for Meg Katzung and Amber Huser Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.

At the Division 2 WIAA Cross Country State Championships in Wisconsin Rapids on Oct. 27, we hear the gentle sound of the runner’s feet coming around the bend. Beach Boys fans close their eyes and start to pick up “Good Vibrations.” 

Christopher Cross says we’ve got such a long way to go to make it to the finish line. So watch us as we run like the wind. As the race went on and the finish was getting near, our legs weak, no time to sleep, we ran like the wind to be free one more time.

Olympic skeleton medalist Antoine announces retirement

Before leaving the mixed zone at the completion of his fourth and final run at the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games in 2018, Matt Antoine of Prairie du Chien said he was going to “take it easy, decompress a little bit” before he figured out what he was going to do next.

Antoine won the national team selection trial held in Lake Placid, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 20, Thursday, Oct. 25 and Friday, Oct. 26, but he knew the fire wasn’t there anymore and reigniting the passion wasn’t going to happen on his sled. Antoine figured out what will: coaching.

Prairie du Chien’s Megan Katzung, a sophomore, and Amber Huser, a senior, finished 35th and 44th, respectively at the Division 2 State Cross Country Meet at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday.

Katzung ran a 6:09 first mile and was at 12:58 at the 2-mile mark. She had an overall pace of 6:32 and finished in a time of 20:17.6.

Reichmann at State Cross Country

Jacob Reichmann, a junior from Wauzeka-Steuben, finished in 32nd place in the Division 3 State Boys Cross Country Meet at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday. 

Reichmann set a pace of 5:34 over the 5,000-meter course. He ran a 5:11 first mile and was at 10:59 at the 2-mile mark. Reichmann finished with a time of 17:17.1.

It was Reichmann’s second straight appearance at the state meet.

The top seeded Lady Timberwolves of River Ridge took down top seeded Hillsboro, three sets to one, to win their first trip to state for volleyball in its program history.

Bloomington had a volleyball team go to state back in the 1970s.

River Ridge is regional champ

 

River Ridge defeated the visiting Southwestern Wildcats on Saturday night to win a Division 4 regional volleyball championship. The Lady Timberwolves won by scores of 25-12, 29-27, 25-15.
