Lauren Kennedy and the Richland Center first baseman hold their positions for several moments while waiting for the umpire to make a ruling. Kennedy was ultimately called safe on her slide back to the bag.

 

The Prairie du Chien softball team beat visiting Richland Center in a low scoring affair Tuesday. The Lady Hawks won 2-1. 

Rilee Wikan allowed just 3 hits and 1 run, while striking out 6 and only giving up 1 walk. 

Lily Krahn, Macey Banasik, Abby Feye and Lauren Kennedy each collected 1 hit. They had great bunts and worked hard.

Kolton Chambers of Seneca leads off of second base versus visiting La Farge.

 

Seneca’s two pitchers didn’t allow a single hit, as Seneca defeated visiting La Farge 10-0 on Thursday in five innings. Kadin Wallin induced a fly out to get the last out of the game.

Seneca got on the board in the first inning when Matt Hall doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Seneca scored four runs in the fourth inning. Wallin, Jared Payne, and Hall all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

 Seneca hosted La Farge in conference softball action on April 18.  

Seneca started strong, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first with Savanna Wallin getting on with a triple to right and Anya Aspenson getting on with a walk. Wallin would score on a passed ball and Aspenson would score on a single to left by Liv Swanson.

The Prairie du Chien track and field team hosted the 66th Annual Prairie Relays Monday afternoon. Thirteen schools participated in the meet.

For the Prairie girls, Meg Katzung was hitting on all cylinders with two big PR’s in the triple jump 31’4” and 6th place, while taking 7th place in pole vault with a 7’0”. Kori Jaynes picked up a 6th place and Hope Martin picked up a 7th in the 100m. Ella Hager picked up an 11th in the 400m while Amber Huser ran her way to a 6th place in the 1600m.

A walk-off error propelled the Prairie du Chien Blackhawk baseball team to a decisive and dramatic nonconference victory over West Salem, 3-2. 

The game was tied at 2 when Ryan McGrath hit a towering pop fly into the tricky wind that the West Salem left fielder managed to get a glove on, but couldn’t hang onto as Josh Dyer scored the winning run from second base.

River Ridge split a twinbill with visiting Argyle Friday afternoon in high school baseball action.

In the opener, Argyle scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning, 1 in the second, 1 in the third and 7 in the fourth en route to a 13-0 win in five innings.

Argyle had 12 hits in the contest. River Ridge had 2 hits and committed 4 errors.

Prairie du Chien had big rallies in the second and third innings to easily defeat visiting Fennimore 15-2 in five innings in the opening baseball game for both teams. 

The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Prairie then rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the second and 9 more in the third to go ahead 14-2. They scored the final run in the fourth inning.

Area basketball players named to WBCA All Star Teams

Several area high school basketball players have been named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star Team. 

Hunter Davis of Prairie du Chien will play for the Division 3 Red Team on June 15 beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the JustAgame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells.

Jared Payne of Seneca will play on June 15 for the Division 5 White Team beginning at 9 a.m.
