Hornets handle Vikings

Second-ranked Wauzeka-Steuben easily handled visiting Pecatonica 69-39 in a nonconference boys basketball game Monday night. 

The Hornets, who are ranked second in the state in Division 5 in two polls, used good play making, shooting and defense to improve to 4-0 overall. They are 2-0 in the Ridge and Valley Conference.

The Hornets built a 33-15 halftime lead en route to the victory.

The #8 ranked Blackhawk grapplers traveled to Wisconsin Dells to wrestle in the Dome on Saturday, Dec. 14 for the 2019 Devils Duals hosted by Adams-Friendship. 

PdC received the 6th seed in the 32-team field. The Blackhawks finished third.  

The field was very deep, with 10 of the 32 teams ranked in the state. In the opening round, PdC would dismantle Wautoma/Wild Rose by a score of 73-6. The Hawks had seven pins and one major decision in the match.

Blackhawk matmen win Cramer/Brown Duals

On Saturday, Dec. 7, the PdC Blackhawks traveled to Janesville Parker for the Cramer/Brown Duals. The Duals are an eight-team event, with the first three rounds being pooled before separating into championship and consolation brackets. 

In the opening round, PdC would take down Monroe by a score of 58-15. The Hawks took advantage of six falls and one major decision. In round two, PdC would battle with host Janesville Parker, and come out on top 48-30. The Hawks had four falls, one technical fall, and a major decision.

The Lady Hornets improved to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference action. 

On Dec. 12, Wauzeka-Steuben will travel to De Soto.

The Lady Blackhawks improved to 2-1 on the season. The Lady Timberwolves are now 2-1. 

Prairie du Chien will next travel to Lancaster on Dec. 6.

Fennimore defeated host River Ridge 70-48 in a nonconference boys basketball game Tuesday night, Nov. 26.

Fennimore led 35-27 at the half. 

The Golden Eagles took the second half 35-21 to earn the victory in the opening game of the season for both teams.

Sixth ranked River Ridge defeated visiting Wauzeka-Steuben 55-31 Thursday night in girls basketball.

River Ridge improved to 1-0 on the season. Wauzeka-Steuben dropped to 0-2. 

River Ridge will travel to Fennimore on Nov. 26. 

Wauzeka-Steuben will travel to Southwestern on Nov. 26.

River Ridge’s football season came to an end Friday night as host Black Hawk-Warren defeated the Timberwolves 49-7 in a WIAA Division 7 Level 3 playoff game Friday night. 

Black Hawk scored 8 points in the first quarter and 14 in the second to take a 22-0 lead at halftime.
