River Ridge Softball begins season 2-0

Under the guidance of Wade Winkers, the River Ridge softball team kicked off the 2025 season last week with non-conference victories over Darlington and De Soto.

Winkers, who coached the River Ridge softball program from 2005 to 2011 and again from 2016 to 2019, steps back into the coaching box after a five-year hiatus, and is assisted by former head coach Todd Breuer, who coached the Timberwolves from 2020 to 2022.

Royals drop season opener

The 2025 softball season kicked off last week and the Seneca Royals were able to get on the diamond with a non-conference game at Belmont last Friday.

The Royals took on a perennially strong Braves team and were defeated 14-3 in six innings to drop to 0-1 on the season. Seneca was held to three hits in the loss. Brigid Hall suffered the loss on the pitching mound.

Ava Sime led the Royals offense by going 2-for-2 with one walk and one RBI. Brittany Heisz was 1-for-3 with a double and one run scored while Addison Davidson added a RBI groundout.

Dressler named to All-State team

Prairie du Chien/Fennimore senior gymnast Taia Dressler was recently honored for her 2024–25 season by being named to the Wisconsin High School Gymnastics Association’s Division 2 All-State Second Team for floor exercise.

The association recognizes all-state gymnasts based on their best scores on each event, with the top five gymnasts earning First Team, the next five Second Team, and the next five Honorable Mention.

River Ridge hoopers earn postseason honors

A year after earning second team honors on the Six Rivers West All-Conference Team, River Ridge junior Brandon Davis was named first team all-conference to lead a quartet of Timberwolves to postseason recognition by the conference.

Senior Andrew Nies was named to the second team while seniors Carter Copsey and Elliott Thornton were named honorable mention.

PdC Girls named All-Conference

The Prairie du Chien Girls Basketball team received postseason recognition by the Southwest Wisconsin Conference, with six players and head coach Paula Shedivy were chosen by the league for the 2024–25 season.

Seniors Tessa Czajkowski Higgins and Tannah Radloff were both named to the league’s first team while seniors Rita Achenbach and Greenlee Krahn and sophomore Karly Kramer were chosen for the second team. Sophomore Claire Kennedy was named to the league’s sportsmanship team.

Royal, Hornet boys named all-conference

Despite only having three athletes combined between the two schools named All-Conference, the Seneca and Wauzeka-Steuben Boys Basketball teams each managed to have a player named to the Ridge & Valley Conference All-Conference First Team for the 2024-25 season.

Named to the team was Seneca senior Dawson Davidson and Wauzeka-Steuben junior Cooper Lomas. Earning honorable mention honors was Seneca junior Gage Wall.

Lomas is a repeat first team selection while Davidson upgraded to the first team following a second team selection last season. Lomas was also named to the honorable mention team as a freshman in 2022-23.

The Prairie du Chien Boys Wrestling team received plenty of recognition on the 2024-25 Southwest Wisconsin Conference All-Conference Team following the Hawks sixth consecutive conference championship this past January.

The Hawks were led by three first team selections in Bryce Lenzendorf (165 pounds), Blake Thiry (215 pounds) and Jack Simmons (285 pounds). Earning second team recognition were Keaton Achenbach (106 pounds), Hunter Reid (120 pounds), Mason Hird (144 pounds) and Jackson Perkins (150 pounds) while Jake Kramer (157) was named honorable mention at 157 pounds.

Hawks girls wrestlers honored by SWC

Led by three first team selections, the Prairie du Chien Girls Wrestling Team had four all-conference honorees in their first season as a program.

Earning first team honors were freshman Rosalie Kossman (100 pounds), freshman Aspen Gelo (120 pounds) and senior Irelynd Cejka (138 pounds) while sophomore Addyson Claycomb earned second team honors (185 pounds).

Prairie du Chien Boys Basketball players Brady Lenzendorf and Sam Kramer were both named honorable mention all-conference selections by the Southwest Wisconsin Conference.

Lenzendorf (senior) and Kramer (junior) both earned all-conference recognition for the first time.

Off the court, Kramer was joined by teammates Garrett DeHart, Ashton Landt, Nick McCullick and Cayden Sutter in being named to the 2025 Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.

Edgerton stops Hawks

Prairie du Chien girls basketball’s stellar 2024-25 season came to an end last Thursday night at Dodgeville High School when the third seed Blackhawks were defeated 49-36 by the top seed Edgerton Crimson Tide.

Both teams came out of the gates having trouble shooting and holding on to the basketball with the Crimson Tide taking a 21-13 into halftime.
