David A. Myers, 84, of Sparta, died Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Tomah VA Medical Center, Tomah. He was born on March 6, 1939 in Dodgeville, Wisc. to Avery and Margaret (Klar) Myers. He grew up in Platteville and attended Platteville High School.
After high school, he joined the US Air Force. He moved to Milwaukee after the service and attended MIT for art and sign painting. He married Geri Laack in 1963. Together they had four children; Trudy, Angie, Todd, and Ryan. In 1970, they moved to Prairie du Chien, where he worked at Wyalusing Academy for 17 years. He then owned and operated Tuckwood Arts and Antiques, in Eastman, Wisc., and later the Harbor House, in Lynxville, WI. David and Geri later divorced.

Sandra Louise Colleran (Chabela)

Sandra Louise Colleran (Chabela), age 86, of Waukesha, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, surrounded by her children. Sandy was born in Prairie du Chien on July 1, 1936, the daughter of Leonard “Jake” Chabela and Fern (Noggle Chabela) Chambers. After graduating from Saint Mary’s Academy in Prairie du Chien in 1954, she earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Marquette University in 1961.
Sandy married her college sweetheart, James Patrick Colleran, in 1959, becoming a typical 1960s housewife who managed a husband and a home, raised three children (so-called Irish triplets), socialized with other housewives and always had dinner on the table by 5 p.m. Sandy’s calling in life was service to others. Her nursing career spanned over 40 years and included working with the Visiting Nurses Association in Milwaukee and Waukesha and setting up a hospice care program.

Adolph H. Petersen

Adolph H. Petersen, 86, passed away at home with family by his side on Monday, June 5, 2023. He was born May 27, 1937, in La Crosse, to the late Andreas and Emma (Stender) Petersen. On April 4, 1959, Adolph married the former Barbara K. Clausen in Lynxville. She preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 2014.
Adolph worked for years with General Motors. He was a member of the Richard Ellis American Legion Post 205.
He enjoyed watching birds, camping, reading, airplanes and playing the flugelhorn. Mainly though, Adolph loved his family and was always around for them.

Harry C. “Deke” Jones

Harry C. “Deke” Jones age 87 lately of McGregor, IA passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor. Deke was born September 2, 1935, in Marietta Township, WI, the son of Willard and Elva (Miller) Jones. Deke worked as a lineman in Wisconsin and Wyoming. He started singing and playing the drums and guitar while in high school and his love of music continued throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the band “The Noteables” while living in the Madison, WI area and later while living in Prairie du Chien; he played with many bands and friends. He had a radio show on one of the local radio stations and was involved in the Country Music Jamboree held in Prairie du Chien for many years. Deke is survived by his children Mark Jones, Cindy Jones-Petersen, Penny (Bob) Munson, Peter (Jane) Jones; grandchildren Heather, Erik, and Amy; great-grandchildren Maggie, Patrick, Audrey, Daniel, and Olivia; and his sister Beverly Ward.

Clement Steele

Clement Steele, 85, of Dubuque, passed away Friday, June 9, 2023, at Hawkeye Care Center.
Clem was born June 16, 1937 in Waukon, IA, the son of Burnell and Lois (Stubstad) Steele. He was the oldest of eight siblings (7 brothers and 1 sister). He married Mary Jane Valley on August 11, 1962 in Prairie du Chien and they were married over 60 years.
Clem was educated at Campion High School, Marquette University, Loras College, University of Wisconsin, Rutgers, University of Iowa, and University of Wyoming. After moving to Dubuque, Clem worked at the AEA, teaching computer education to both educators and students in North Eastern Iowa. He went on to teach at Loras College as a Professor of Education, retiring in 2000.
Clem served in the Wisconsin National Guard.

Marilyn Rose Lawson, age 83, of Benson, Arizona, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2023, with her loved ones by her side. She was born in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, on September 24, 1939, to Milton, and Cecilia (Valley) Steinberg. She married William (Bill) Lawson in 1956, and they had many adventures in their life together. Marilyn retired from 3M in 1996, then her and Bill moved to Arizona in 1999. Marilyn was forever busy with many hobbies and “loves”. Her biggest and deepest love was her family. Caring about their welfare, cooking and entertaining them. And her many hobbies. Knitting, crocheting ,bingo, boating, fishing, Mah Jong, sewing circle, and beautiful quilts. Making quilts of valor for beloved family and friends was very close to her heart. Marilyn was a beautiful soul in every way, with a huge caring heart, a selfless giving personality and a huge hug for all who were dear to her.

Scott K. Gilbert, age 87, of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in LaCrosse, Wisc. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa on July 1, 1935, the son of Lyle and Martena (DeRuyter) Gilbert. He grew up on the family farm in Larrabee, Iowa before going to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa to study agriculture. He then enrolled at Purdue University in Lafayette, IN, where he achieved his doctorate degree in Agronomy.
