Colleen M. Anderson

 

Colleen M. Anderson, 66, of Wisconsin Rapids, formerly of Patch Grove, passed away on Monday, May 16, at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.

She was born on Dec. 23, 1949, in Boscobel, the daughter of Leo and Dorothy (Stadele) Lester. Colleen attended West Grant High School. She furthered her education at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore and obtained a degree in Marketing. Colleen was employed at Wellington Place at Biron, Wisconsin Rapids. On Sept. 22, 1984, she was united in marriage to David Anderson at Wyalusing State Park, Bagley. After their marriage, Colleen enjoyed traveling and was an avid quilter.

Lawrence (Larry) Joseph Pelock

 

Lawrence (Larry) Joseph Pelock of Prairie du Chien, died Tuesday, May 11, at Crossing River’s Health hospital in Prairie du Chien.

He was born Dec. 1, 1940 in Prairie du Chien, the son of John (Jack) Joseph and Helen Mary (DuCharme) Pelock. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High school in 1959, joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard serving from 1968 to 1974. In 1968 he married Carol (Titlbach) and later divorced.

Helen Catherine (Lapp) Lipke, 89, passed away peacefully on May 12, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. 

Helen was born on March 28, 1927, in her home in High Falls, New York at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. Helen spent most of her life in Prairie du Chien, and her last months in Galesville.

James A. Sprosty, 65, of Batavia, passed away early Tuesday, May 10, at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1951, in Prairie du Chien, a son of the late Bernard and Leone (Nolan) Sprosty. He attended Seneca Grade School and graduated from Seneca High School in 1969.

John Arnold Williams

 

John Arnold Williams, 61, of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, May 11, at the Crossing Rivers Hospital in Prairie du Chien. 

He was born Feb. 10, 1955 in Platteville, the son of William and Bernice (White) Williams. He served in the US Army National Guard. John married Doris Barr on July 3, 1986 in Reno, Nev. He worked at 3M Company in Prairie du Chien for 35 years until his retirement. He was a talented carpenter and enjoyed hunting and fishing. John was always willing to help where needed; he was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all.

Ryan James Cowell

 

Ryan James Cowell, 32, of Claremont, died Saturday, May 7, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. The Donate Life flag was flown at St. Mary’s on Monday in memory of Ryan who gave the gift of life by being an organ donor.

Ryan was born Dec. 27, 1983 in Prairie du Chien, the son of Lisa Hein and Jeff Cowell. They moved to Owatonna where Ryan attended Triton School in Dodge Center. He worked for the 49ers and laborer’s union working as a lift operator and tender. He was currently employed at Northland. Ryan was also a volunteer fireman and past chief of the Claremont Fire Department.

Lyla LaVerne (Yttri) Watts

 

Lyla LaVerne (Yttri) Watts, 72, passed away on May 5, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse surrounded by family and friends. 

Lyla was born in Chicago, Ill. on Jan. 19, 1944 to Wanda Iola (Copus) and Lyle Yttri. 

Lyla married Martin ComStock Jr. on Sept. 16, 1961 in Prairie du Chien. They had 4 daughters and a son but later divorced. She was engaged to Lester J. Berns, whom she spent many years with until his passing, they have one daughter together. On May 11, 1991 Lyla married James Watts in Prairie du Chien.

Avis J. Smith

 

Avis J. Smith, 69, of McGregor passed away Thursday, May 5, at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. 

She was born Oct. 14, 1946 in Clay, W.V., the daughter of Jack and Mary (Davis) Cuttlip. Avis cooked at the Prairie Maison Care Center and enjoyed volunteering in her later years at the Great River Care Center in McGregor and Thornton Manor in Lansing. Avis was a member of the United Methodist Church in McGregor. She loved animals and belonged to the ASPCA.
