Judy Pohronezny

 

Judy Pohronezny, 57, of Prairie du Chien, passed away at her home in Prairie du Chien on Aug. 12. 

Judy Marie, the daughter of LeRoy and Patricia (Du Charme) Lenzendorf, was born Dec. 19, 1958 in Prairie du Chien. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1977 and then attended Capri College in Dubuque, Iowa. She later received an associate degree in accounting from W.C.T.C. in Pewaukee. Judy worked as a hairdresser for many years in Milwaukee. After receiving her degree, she worked as an accountant at Glass, Inc. in Sussex. First and foremost, Judy considered herself a homemaker. Raising her family was very important to her.

Wilma Jean (Ertel) Schreck

 

 

Wilma Jean (Ertel) Schreck, 87, of Mt. Sterling, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at The Bland Bekkedal Center for HospiceCare in Viroqua, after a courageous battle with bladder cancer.

Wilma was born on the home farm near Lynxville, on Dec. 11, 1928 to William and Clara (Stluka) Ertel. She joined an older brother, Edward to complete the Ertel family.

James “Bud” McCarthy

 

 James “Bud” McCarthy, 86, of Milton, died on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at home. 

He was born in Wauzeka, on Nov. 1, 1929, the son of James N. and Elsie (Lathrop) McCarthy. He served in the U.S. Navy and married Dorothy H. Rau on Oct. 19, 1951. She preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 2000. James was a member of the Wauzeka American Legion, UAW Local 95, and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a great story teller, loved to hunt and fish, he enjoyed farming, and spending time with family and friends.

James Hatlan

 

James Hatlan, 54, of Ferryville, died Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Jim was born on Feb. 14, 1962 to Archie and Evelyn (Lee) Hatlan. He was baptized and confirmed at the Hauge Lutheran Church. Jim graduated from Seneca High School. He was united in marriage to Tracy Brodhead and they had two kids and later divorced. After his divorce Jim met Barb Czarnik and they spent 20 years together.

Mary M. Konichek

 

Mary M. Konichek, 81, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, at her home surrounded by her family. 

She was born Feb. 16, 1935 in Grant County, the daughter of Albert and Mildred (Wiest) Ertz. She married William “Zeke” Konichek on Nov. 10, 1956. He preceded her in death on their 32nd wedding anniversary in 1988. Mary worked for Wisconsin Power and Light and later for the Prairie du Chien Public Schools for 26 years until her retirement. She was an avid golfer and bridge player. Mary was a talented seamstress and enjoyed volunteer work; she had a “servant’s heart.”

Lola M. (Borgedahl) Nash

 

Lola M. (Borgedahl) Nash, 87, passed away on Thursday, July 28, at the Atrium Post Acute Care Center of Lancaster after a long illness. 

She was born on July 25, 1929 to Sygrid and Dena (Grimsled) Borgedahl on the family farm in rural Ferryville,  (which is currently Sugar Creek Bible Camp). She was baptized and confirmed at Utica Lutheran Church. She attended high school in Gays Mills. She married Samuel Nash in 1947 at Freeman Lutheran Church in Ferryville. They raised five children. The family moved to Prairie du Chien in 1965 and attended St Peter Lutheran Church.

Florence V. Hurda

 

Florence V. Hurda, 89, of Wauzeka passed away on Monday, Aug. 8, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien.

She was born on Jan. 14, 1927 at Barnum, Wis. to Ole and Jane (Dilley) Copus. She attended West Fork School. She was married on Sept. 14, 1946 in Wauzeka to John G. Hurda and he preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1990. Florence was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Wauzeka and was a member of the women’s Bible study there.

Helen L. Stade

 

 

Helen L. Stade, 95, died Friday, Aug. 5. Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 4 p.m. Rosary at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, Iowa and one hour before Mass at the church on Friday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at St. Mary Catholic Church, McGregor, Iowa. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, McGregor, Iowa.
