Fredric George Huebsch, Jr.

 

Prairie du Chien and its neighboring communities lost a long-time servant and leader when Fredric George Huebsch, Jr. passed away on Saturday, July 2, at the age of 85. Fred had lost his wife of nearly 58 years, Barbara, just 26 days earlier.

Fred was born in McGregor, Iowa on Oct. 1, 1930. At the age of nine he started helping out at his father’s McGregor car dealership, sweeping the floors and washing cars. After graduating from McGregor High School he attended the University of Iowa, where he earned a degree in business.

Mrs. Sandi Stewart

 

Mrs. Sandi Stewart passed away June 29, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. 

When she was able, Sandi loved to cook for her family. Every holiday she enjoyed preparing large meals for anyone that came to visit. Yummy treats was her favorite thing to make for her precious grandchildren. Giving them a true sugar high and then sending them home. Always known to have a full coffee cup in her hand no matter what she was doing. A dedicated Facebook fan, she was able to stay in touch with her home town of Prairie du Chien. Sandi treasured all her friends.

Roberta L. “Bertie” Dillman

 

Roberta L. “Bertie” Dillman, 77, of McGregor, Iowa and formerly of Prairie du Chien passed away Friday, July 1, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, after an extended illness. 

She was born Aug. 7, 1938 in Marquette, Iowa the daughter of Delmar and Alberta (Rigdon) Burroughs. Bertie was very proud of attaining her Master of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. She worked as a guidance counselor for the Prairie du Chien School District for 20 years. Bertie was very active in the United Methodist Church in Prairie du Chien, Lutheran Social Services and the United Way. She enjoyed playing tennis and golf.

Lucille Frances Carnicle, 98, of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, died Thursday, June 23, at Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa. 

Lucille was born on Jan. 21, 1918 in Dubuque, Iowa to Joseph and Margaret (Hienze) Graff. She graduated from high school in Dubuque, Iowa.

Elizabeth “Bette” Rettig

 

Elizabeth “Bette” Rettig, née Coleman, 91, passed away on June 18, at Prairie Maison Nursing home in Prairie du Chien. She lived there for many years and was cared for by Shirley and many of the other nurses,
“angels” that work there. 

She was the beloved wife of the late John “Jack” Rettig for 68 years; loving mother of the late Steven (Margaret), Neil (Laura), Joel (Debbie), Jon, and Jennifer (Joseph) Campe; cherished grandmother of Justin (Michelle), Kristin and Brian Crooks, Megin (Randy) Lane and Pamela Burt; proud great-grandmother of Steven, Nathan, Jaime, Riley, Jackson and Ayla.

Alexis M. Burns

 

Alexis M. Burns, 66, of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, June 15, at the Mayo Franciscan Health Center in La Crosse. 

She was born April 21, 1950 in Wheeling, Ill. the daughter of James and June (Huecker) Burns. In her younger years she enjoyed the outdoors with camping, canoeing, hiking and snowmobiling. She enjoyed traveling especially out west. An adventurous spirit prompted her to move to Arizona and she studied at Arizona State University focusing on arts and crafts. She moved back to the Midwest to be closer to family.
