Beba B. Cecka

 

Beba B. Cecka, 93, of Prairie du Chien passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Appleton.

She was born May 31, 1923 in Richland Center, the daughter of William and Leona (Hillesheim) Durnford. She married William “Tony” Cecka on May 13, 1944. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1997. Beba worked as a beautician in Madison and later assisted her husband in operating the family business, Tony’s Grill in Prairie du Chien, for many years. She was an active member of St. John’s Church in Prairie du Chien.

Mary Janell Becwar

 

Mary Janell Becwar, 94, of Prairie du Chien passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, at the Crossing Rivers Hospital in Prairie du Chien. 

She was born April 17, 1922 in Prairie du Chien the daughter of George and Josephine (Mezera) Wachuta. She married Albert Becwar on Nov. 21, 1945 at St. Gabriel’s church in Prairie du Chien. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2005. Janell worked in the kitchen at the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien for 17 years. She belonged to the Irish Ridge Homemakers Club and was an active member of St. Gabriel’s Parish. Janell loved everybody and was considered a special “grandma” to many. She enjoyed playing games and cards especially with her monthly card club.

Judy Pohronezny

 

Judy Pohronezny, 57, of Prairie du Chien, passed away at her home in Prairie du Chien on Aug. 12. 

Judy Marie, the daughter of LeRoy and Patricia (Du Charme) Lenzendorf, was born Dec. 19, 1958 in Prairie du Chien. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1977 and then attended Capri College in Dubuque, Iowa. She later received an associate degree in accounting from W.C.T.C. in Pewaukee. Judy worked as a hairdresser for many years in Milwaukee. After receiving her degree, she worked as an accountant at Glass, Inc. in Sussex. First and foremost, Judy considered herself a homemaker. Raising her family was very important to her.

Wilma Jean (Ertel) Schreck

 

 

Wilma Jean (Ertel) Schreck, 87, of Mt. Sterling, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at The Bland Bekkedal Center for HospiceCare in Viroqua, after a courageous battle with bladder cancer.

Wilma was born on the home farm near Lynxville, on Dec. 11, 1928 to William and Clara (Stluka) Ertel. She joined an older brother, Edward to complete the Ertel family.

James “Bud” McCarthy

 

 James “Bud” McCarthy, 86, of Milton, died on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at home. 

He was born in Wauzeka, on Nov. 1, 1929, the son of James N. and Elsie (Lathrop) McCarthy. He served in the U.S. Navy and married Dorothy H. Rau on Oct. 19, 1951. She preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 2000. James was a member of the Wauzeka American Legion, UAW Local 95, and a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a great story teller, loved to hunt and fish, he enjoyed farming, and spending time with family and friends.
