Violet G. Wackershauser

Violet G. Wackershauser, 87, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. 

She was born Jan. 10, 1931, the daughter of George and Mamie Lewig. She attended school in the Wauzeka area and was a lifelong homemaker. Violet was married to Loren Koecke on Sept. 13, 1969, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following Loren’s death in 2002, she married Virgil Wackershauser. Violet was an artist at heart and enjoyed quilting and gardening in her free time, and she loved to dance. 

Violet is survived by various members of her extended family and by many friends.

In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husbands, Loren Koecke and Virgil Wackershauser.

William B. 'Bill' Tubbs

William B. “Bill” Tubbs, 65, of Bagley, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018. 

He was born in Prairie du Chien, on Aug. 6, 1953, the son of Robert and Barbara (Govier) Tubbs. 

Following his education, Bill was a sales consultant for a number of years at H&S Sales, specializing in cabinetry. He then worked at Spahn & Rose Lumber Co. in Prairie du Chien until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed photography.

Bill is survived by his siblings, Thomas (Roxanne) Tubbs, and Beth (Bruce) Fortner; nephews, Brian and Alan (Kate) Tubbs; and an uncle, Floyd Welsch.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tamara 'Tammy' Marie (Regenold) Kleitsch

Tamara “Tammy” Marie (Regenold) Kleitsch, 59, of Monona, Iowa, passed away in her home on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018. 

She was born in Independence, Iowa, on June 26, 1959, the daughter of Ronald J. and Kay F. (Mersch) Regenold.

Tammy graduated from Wapsie Valley High School in 1977, and furthered her education at Hawkeye Community College.

Tammy was united in marriage to Thomas Kleitsch in Fairbank, Iowa. They later divorced. Tammy was employed at Wal-Mart in Prairie du Chien, earning her 10-year pin this past Friday. She enjoyed being with friends, watching her favorite TV shows, and she loved her dog, Fancy. Tammy was a very thoughtful, kind and caring person to all who knew her. She will be missed.

Lorraine Mainor

Lorraine Mainor, 81, of Viroqua, died Monday, July 23. 

She was born to Arthur and Gladys (West) Barrette, in Bloomington, on July 15, 1937. Lorraine attended St. Mary’s School in Prairie du Chien.

She was united in marriage with Wilbur Ray Mainor. They later divorced. She enjoyed painting, reading and tending to her indoor plants. Lorraine was a master of all trade, including being a seamstress and upholstering furniture.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Deanna (Cecil) Martin of Bagley, Douglas (Jackie) Mainor of New Port Richey, Fla., and Judy Perry of Ancorage, Alaska; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Gary Barrette, Sylvester Barrette, Mark Barrette and Madonna Toberman.

William Clifford 'Bill' Larsen

William Clifford “Bill” Larsen passed away Nov. 23, 2018. 

He was born Oct. 13, 1955, in Prairie du Chien. He was happily raised on two farms, first by Seneca (overlooking the Mississippi) and then between Steuben and Wauzeka. He graduated from Wauzeka-Steuben schools in 1973 and attended SWTC for farm management. He fell in love and married Rosanna Wier in 1988. Rosanna and Bill made their home in Wauzeka. They had two daughters Anna and April. Bill worked at a number of manufacturers in Prairie du Chien where he always had a smile and a ready wit. Bill enjoyed his family and pets and he was a expert on TV westerns. Whenever asked how things were, his answer was always “pretty good, pretty good.”

Birdie M. Meng

Birdie M. Meng, 98, of Bagley, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Grant Regional Care Center in Lancaster.

She was born March 3, 1920, in Wyalusing Township, the daughter of Verdie and Amelia (Cathman) Clark.  She married Edward Meng on Feb. 24, 1940, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dubuque, Iowa. Together, they farmed most of their lives in the Bagley area. Birdie was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Bagley, The Royal Neighbors of America and the American Legion Auxiliary.  

She is survived by her sons, LaVern (Nancy) and Dale (Nancy Reiss), both of Jefferson, and Robert, of Bagley; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Myrna Clark, of Lancaster.

Maurice L. Parkins, 83, of Glen Haven, passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, Nov 24, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. 

He was born on Dec. 9, 1934, at the family farm in Beetown Township, the son of Lloyd and Iva (Myers) Parkins.

Joan Loretta Hartley

Accepting God’s will, Joan Loretta Hartley, 81, of Seneca, passed peacefully on Friday Nov. 16, in Viroqua, surrounded by her family. 

Joan was born Nov. 12, 1937, in Eastman, to William and Loretta (Boylen) Martin. She married Floyd F. Sutton on June 6, 1959, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman. He preceded her in death on August 27, 1990. She later married Joseph Hartley on August 16, 1996, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Seneca. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2014.

LaVern H. 'Stretch' Nickel

LaVern H. “Stretch” Nickel, 84, of Potosi, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Orchard Manor, Lancaster. 

LaVern was born on June 29, 1934, in Waterloo Township, Grant County, the son of Arlie and Sylvia (Knoke) Nickel. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1952. LaVern was married to Naomi Barr; to this union came three daughters, Gloria, Deb and Susan. Later, he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Hauser on Oct. 3, 1972, in Michigan. She preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2015.
