Reverend Alan Robert Lindberg

The Reverend Alan Robert Lindberg, 88, was called home to be with the Lord on December 16, 2022 at Sienna Crest in Fort Atkinson, WI.
Alan was born on February 28, 1934 to the late Edwin and Bertha Lindberg in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Jane Doris Anderson on December 22, 1956 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Joliet, Illinois.
Alan completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Augustana College and Theological Seminary in Rock Island, IL with a Master’s Degree of Divinity in 1960. He was ordained as a pastor in the Lutheran faith soon after. He earned several other Master’s Degrees in the humanities during his lifetime. He served Christ and his congregations with joy and enthusiasm for 40 years in communities including Mandan, ND, Madison, WI, Neenah, WI, Fort Atkinson, WI, West Milwaukee, WI and Slinger, WI.

John D. Washkuhn

John D. Washkuhn, age 82 of Lynxville, Wis. passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, with his wife by his side. He was born on May 5, 1940, at Shell Lake, Wis. to William and Elizabeth (Blood) Washkuhn.
John completed his engineering degree while working for 3M and continued with 3M for 34 years until retiring in 1996. He had many hobbies and interests, including old cars and farm tractors, which he successfully restored and enjoyed. He also enjoyed woodworking and built many pieces of furniture for his family. During early retirement years, he dedicated his time to Habitat for Humanity, as well as driving senior van.

Pacita “Pat” Fritsche,

Pacita “Pat” Fritsche, 80, of Eastman, Wis. passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien, Wisc. She was born on March 24, 1942 to Lorenzo and Maria (Robillos) Incierto in Cantilan Surigao Del Sur, Philippines.
On March 28, 1967, Pacita was united in marriage with Roland Fritsche on Clark Air Force Base, Philippines. Three children were born to this union. Throughout the years, Pat worked at Prairie Industries and Advance Transformer. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Society and Eastman Fire Department Auxiliary. Pat enjoyed shopping, traveling, flowers, canning, cooking, partying, and dancing.

June Petsche

Our beautiful, dear Mother, June Petsche sadly passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at home with her daughter Melody by her side. She never looked a day over 50, but you would never guess, she was 91.
She was born in Mt. Sterling, WI on June 13, 1931, the daughter of Harry and Edna (Heisz) Smith. She grew up in Eastman, WI and attended school there. She was a Majorette, leading the Eastman 4th of July parade. She was a loving, hard-working mother who raised nice children on her own. June was a fun grandma who was so proud of all her grandchildren. She was a good friend to many and a wonderful cook.
She leaves us with her famous pumpkin bread recipe. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards for many years. June was a truly beautiful person, loved by many. She will be missed terribly.

Loyd Frederick “Jr.” Beesecker

CASSVILLE – Loyd Frederick “Jr.” Beesecker, age 79, of Cassville, died peacefully at home with this wife by his side on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.  He was born on June 16, 1943, in Boscobel, the son of Loyd Sr. and Gertrude (Martin) Beesecker; he was the oldest of 10 children. On July 20, 1963, Jr. married Jo Marie Wieser in Prairie du Chien; together they cherished 62 years. Jr. started working at Dubuque Gases & Steal at the age of 22 and went on attend Diesel Truck Driving School. He graduated on September 7, 1968. Following graduation, Jr. started driving semi for Flexsteel and drove for 37 years, retiring in 2005.

Gary Lee “Wig” Payne

Gary Lee “Wig” Payne, 77 of Eastman, Wis. died suddenly in his home on Jan 2, 2023 with his wife Ann and a few loved ones by his side. He was born December 11, 1945 to Junior and Judy Payne.
Wig was an avid Wisconsin sports fan which isn’t surprising as he was a phenomenal athlete At Seneca High School and had a scholarship offer to play football upon graduating high school. He played on the Seneca Farmers softball team with many of the local “celebrities”. He loved hunting and the big group of guys that would get together to do drives, process deer, and share stories over a few Old Milwaukees. He was a hardworking man who spent most of his life as a farmer or working for Zabel Equipment and when he wasn’t working you could find him playing cards, driving around the farm in his cub, or driving down to copper creek, always with a smile.

Paul William Flansburgh

Paul William Flansburgh passed away peacefully on January 3, 2023. Paul lived a full life of family, service, and love. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He was born to Robert and Anna (Heller) Flansburgh on April 21, 1929, Paul graduated from Wauzeka High School in 1947. After graduation Paul began working with his father on the family dairy farm, eventually taking it over and where he and Matilda remained until retirement. Paul was introduced to the love of his life at a country dance by his brother, LeRoy. After just six short months of dating, he married Matilda Laufenberg on October 11, 1960, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ashton, WI. Their devotion to each other was unwavering. During their 62 years of marriage their celebrations were countless.

Rosella P. ‘Rosie’ Smrcina

Rosella (Rosie) P. Smrcina, 93, of Prairie du Chien, passed peacefully on Dec. 22, 2022, at Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa, with deer watching her through the window. Rosie was born the daughter of Peter and Alma (Olson) Severson in Mt. Sterling. Rosie attended school in Seneca and La Crosse Central and graduated from Prairie du Chien. She married John G. Smrcina on Dec. 12, 1947. She worked at Savory Cafe and as a cook at B.A. Kennedy and then became a full-time housewife, mother and caregiver for their middle son Gary. Rosie was an avid Packers fan and loved everything Elvis.

Phyllis A. Slaght

Phyllis A. Slaght, age 84, of Wauzeka, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at Vernon Manor in Viroqua. She was born on Sept. 22, 1938, the daughter of Charles and Lula (Yost) Gilkes. She grew up in Wyalusing Township and attended the local school there, where the Dew Drop Inn currently stands. Phyllis worked at Advanced Transformer in Boscobel for many years until retirement. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Patricia A. Mercaitis

Patricia A. Mercaitis, age 76, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. She was born in Oregon, Ill., on March 5, 1946, the daughter of Fulton and Elizabeth (Himes) Franklin. She grew up in a rural farmhouse near Mount Morris, Ill., and worked numerous jobs growing up, including telephone operator, cook, bartender, taxi driver, counselor at a women’s shelter, truck driver and the family-owned fishing lure company Bill’s Bait that produced The Worm fishing lure.
