Janice Cornford

Janice Cornford, 81, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019, at Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville.  

She was born in Blue River,  on April 30, 1937, the daughter of Walter and Lyndall (Richason) Shaffer. She married Dean A. Cornford on June 23, 1956. They celebrated 62 years together before he unexpectedly preceded her in death on July 24, 2018. For the last nine months, Janice has missed Dean, living without him in their duplex, where they thought they would have many more years together.

Linda Mae Ames

Linda Mae Ames, 63, of Mt. Hope, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. 

She was born on Sept. 2, 1955, in Boscobel, the daughter of Wilbur and Alice (Whitish) Colson. 

Linda attended and graduated from Iowa-Grant High School in 1973. Shortly after, Linda married her first husband, and they later divorced in 1994. On June 23, 2001, she was united in marriage to Jeffrey Ames. They made their home in Potosi until moving to Mt. Hope in 1997.

Jean Shipley

Jean Elizabeth Shipley, 99, passed away at Boscobel Care and Rehab on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2019. 

Jean was born in Boscobel on Jan. 17, 1920, the daughter of Roy and Minnie (Jewett) Patterson. She was united in marriage to Lyle F. Shipley on April 1, 1942. Together, they raised four daughters in Wauzeka. 

Jean was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, needlework and spending time with her family. 

Jean is survived by her daughters, Jane (Bob) Lenz, of Prairie du Chien, Patti (Jerry) Achenbach, of Boscobe,l and Mary (Wayne Cooley) Shipley,of Bagley; 11 grandchildren ansd 22 great-grandchildren.

Sherwood Matti

Sherwood Edgar Matti, Eastman, passed away, unexpectedly, Thursday, March 14, 2019, at his home, due to natural causes. 

He was born April 25, 1929, in a box car, attached to the house, in Charme, Wisconsin. 

He was named after a local minister, Sherwood Eddie. He was one of five children, Ethel, Gaylord, Neal and Leila. Growing up, he worked on the farm and enjoyed playing softball and marbles. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in the old B.A. Kennedy School. In 1955, Sherwood and his dad built the house he presently lived in.

Phyllis M. Steiner

Phyllis M. Steiner, 88, of Prairie du Chien, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at Crossing Rivers Health, with her family by her side.  

She was born June 17, 1930, in New Hampton, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Eva (Beckman) Noehl. She married her sweetheart and loving husband of 64 years, “Lefty” Laverne Steiner on May 30, 1953, at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien. Together, they raised five children:  Brad, Dirk, Brian, Gerri and Jennifer. Phyllis was also involved in the daily operation of the family construction business and The Alaskan Canadian Fur Trading Company.  She was an active member of St. Gabriel’s Church and an avid Cubs and Badger fan.  

Lefty preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 2017.

Pauline J. DuCharme

Pauline J. DuCharme, 63, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, at her home.  

She was born Sept. 21, 1955, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Joseph and Norma (Jacobs) Graf. Pauline grew up on the family farm near Bagley and was a graduate of West Grant High School. She worked as a production operator for 3M Company in Prairie du Chien for 34 years until her retirement.  

Pauline is survived by her son Brad “Bud” (Alexandria), of Prairie du Chien; and her brother, Paul (Connie) Graf, of Bagley. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

According to Pauline’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.

Paul Fiddler

Paul Fiddler, 97, of McGregor, Iowa, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at Prairie Maison under hospice care in Prairie du Chien. 

He was the son of Michael and Jennie (Albright) Fiddler. Paul was baptized and confirmed Catholic. He attended school in Blue Earth, Minnesota.

Rilla F. Oppriecht

Rilla F. Oppriecht, 94, of rural Eastman, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019, at the Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien.  

Rilla Fern Kramer was born May 2, 1924, on the Shanghai Ridge family farm, rural Eastman. Rilla was the 10th of 11 children born to Hubert and Mary (Brady) Kramer.

Clarence J. 'Zippy' Reuter

Clarence J. “Zippy” Reuter, 71, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, at his home. 

 He was born on June 22, 1947, the son of Reaford and Letha (Zenz) Reuter. Zippy graduated from Lancaster High School in 1966.
