Robert Cardin

Robert Lee (Bob) Cardin, 82, of Kerrville, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at his home in Kerrville, Texas, with his family at his bedside. He was born in a house in Marquette, to parents Miles and Harriett Cardin on June 21, 1937. He married the love of his life, Judith Anne Risdon, on June 21, 1958, in Independence.

Bob went to school at Mar-Mac in McGregor. He started working at the age of 14 on his uncle’s farm, and, at age 16, began working at the Strand Theater running the movie projector to earn money for basketball shoes. He also worked at Hipps Auto Garage in Prairie du Chien, Wis., until he graduated from Mar-Mac High School in 1955.

Adeline Hammel

Adeline Maxine Hammel, 93, of McGregor, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, at Great River Care Center, McGregor. Adeline Maxine was born Jan. 22, 1926, to George and Mildred (Lamphere) Ingles at home in Lodomillo Township, Littleport. She attended country school in Mays Prairie in Waterville.

In her younger years, Adeline worked as a waitress at Indian Isle for many years. Adeline also worked at 3M in Prairie du Chien, Wis. She loved to travel, read and play cards.

Madonna Melcher

Madonna F. Melcher, 92, of Decorah, formerly of Harpers Ferry and Waukon, died on Oct. 18, 2019, surrounded by family at Wellington Place, where she had resided since December 2016. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Living Faith United Methodist Church in McGregor, with Pastor Deb Parkison officiating. Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery, in rural Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is handling the arrangements.

Mark Pfeiffer

Mark Andrew Pfeiffer, 65, of Terre Haute, Ind., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, surrounded by his loving family. 

Mark was born in Pensacola, Fla., on Dec. 10, 1953, to U.S. Navy Dr. Donald W. and Marlys Pfeiffer.

Norbert Hammes

Norbert Joseph Hammes Jr., 83, of Marquette, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019 at home with family at his side.

Norbert was born April 18, 1936, in La Crosse, Wis., the son of Norbert and Marie (Baumgartner) Hammes Sr. He was the oldest of eight children. He attended Holy Trinity Parish Elementary School and Aquinas High School in La Crosse. 

Norbert was united in marriage to Joyce Martinek on May 5, 1956, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse, Wis. They had one child, Deborah, before Joyce passed away. He was then united in marriage with Nancy Rehm on Jan. 14, 1961, at St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor. They had three children, Mark, Marigrace and Margaret and raised their family in Marquette.

Patricia Mae Dickens, 70, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., formerly of McGregor, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, following a brief illness. She was born on June 16, 1949 in Iowa City, the daughter of Frankie and Bernice (Cavanaugh) Harry.

Russell Davis

Russell Davis, 83, of McGregor, passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019, at the Guttenberg Care Center, in Guttenberg. Russ, a loving husband and father, was born in Cambridge, Ohio, on Jan. 19, 1936, to Raymond and Hazel (Phillips) Davis. Childhood years were spent in Warren, Ohio and he was a high school graduate of Leavittsburg, Ohio. Russ was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Cold War Era and, due to the Viet Nam War, his service was extended.

Jaxson James Jones

Jaxson James Jones, five days old, of Harpers Ferry, died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse, Wis.

Jaxson is survived by his parents, Chelsey Young and Peter Jones of Harpers Ferry; one sister, Carlie Jones; maternal grandparents, Brian and Lisa Young; paternal grandparents, Darci Jones and Thomas Burke and Henry Jones and Elfriede Marcussen; great-grandparents, Darwin Hallberg and Darlene Adrian; uncles and aunts, Joseph Lenz Jr., Jeremy (Alicia) Lenz, Kyle Young (Briana Berger), Anna Jones (Don Moose), Sara Jones and Adam (Cydney) Jones; and seven cousins, McKenna, McKlain, Avery, McKoeta, Lainey, Riley and Beckett. He was preceded in death by several great-grandparents.

Meda Weller

Meda Weller, 96, of McGregor, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, in Cascade.

Meda Charlene Weller was born in McGregor on Oct. 2, 1922, to parents Carl and Margaret (Zahn) Miller. Meda graduated from Rockford Memorial School of Nursing in Rockford, Ill, 1944.  She served in the Philippines with the Army Nurse Corps from late 1944 to early 1946. Meda then worked as a registered nurse in Alaska when it was still a territory. In March 1947, while in Alaska, she married Walter Allan DeLamater. They had two daughters, Marie and Virginia (Ginny).
