Mary C. Henkels, 81, of Hiawatha passed away at the St. Luke’s Transitional Care Center on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mary was born on June 27, 1943, in Guttenberg. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Edna (Bogart) Frommelt. On Oct. 5, 1968, Mary married the love of her life, Ervin Henkels. Mary enjoyed gardening, embroidery, baking, and she was an avid reader. Mary loved being a grandma.

Gary Edward Kann, 67, of Guttenberg, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at his home in Guttenberg.

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 12, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Guttenberg. Visitation was before services at the church.

A private inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Guttenberg.

Paul L. Barnhart, 93, of Garnavillo, formerly of Guttenberg, passed away at the Guttenberg Care Center on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Paul was born on Jan. 22, 1931, in Osterdock. He was the son of Clifford and Bertha (Nokleby) Barnhart. On Feb. 24, 1951, Paul married the love of his life of 73 years, Wilma Ziegler, in Guttenberg.

Joyce Ann Hyde, 79, of Guttenberg passed away on Aug. 15, 2024, in her home, after a 3-year struggle with lung cancer.

Joyce was born on the family farm in Volga Township, Clayton County, to Wilfred and Jeanette (Kann) Berns. After her father died in a tractor accident in 1947, her family moved to Guttenberg in 1950. She did many things in those formative years, including: janitor at St. Mary’s, Lowell’s Greenhouse, Round the Clock Laundromat, Kenny’s Boat Line, babysitting, Les and Em’s Drive-In, nanny for the Don Ferring Family & anything else her mom volunteered her for!

Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 5, at Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg and before services at the church.

Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 6, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg.

Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 7, at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Gabriel Mensah.

Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 25, at Morris Funeral Home in Garnavillo and before services at the funeral home on Monday.

Services were Monday, Aug. 26, at the funeral home, conducted by Father Moser.
