Don J. Koss

Don J. Koss, 95, of Guttenberg, completed his earthly journey on May 10, 2025, at the Guttenberg Care Center surrounded by his loving family.

To honor Don’s life, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 23, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Family and friends of Don are invited to join in fellowship from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Michael R. Lehman

Michael “Mike” R. Lehman, 64, of New Vienna passed away Monday, May 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home following a long battle with cancer.

Visitation was Friday, May 9, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville and also Saturday before services at the funeral home.

Funeral services were Saturday, May 10, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, conducted by Rev. Tony Kruse.

Tammy Jo Goodman

Tammy Jo Goodman, 56, of Wauzeka Wis., passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, after fighting cancer with incredible strength, determination, and positivity.

Services will be announced at a later date.

Tammy was born on March 14, 1969, in Boscobel, Wis. to Tanda (Lund) Featherston. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1987.

Mary Ann Hoeger, 84, of Guttenberg passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services were Saturday, May 3, at Morris Funeral Home in Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Paul Ameyaw. Visitation was before services at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at a later date.

William “Bill” Peters

William “Bill” Peters, 91, of Cedar Falls (formerly of Colesburg and Guttenberg), passed away on April 23, 2025.

A celebration of life will be held at the Guttenberg Golf Course on Friday, May 9, from 6-8 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne Peters; son, Dave Peters; daughter, Shari (Mike) Sawyer., all of Cedar Falls and two grandchildren, Megan Sawyer of Kansas City, and Owen Sawyer of Cedar Falls/Ames.

Steven L. Morarend

Steven “Steve” L. Morarend, 73, of Lansing, died Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis., after a tough battle with cancer for 15 years.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 17, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Shep’s Riverside Bar and Grill in Lansing with military honors taking place at 12 noon. A lunch will be served. In honor of Steve, please wear Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs apparel, or anything camo.

Janice Elizabeth (Gehring) Thiese, 96, passed away Feb. 13, 2025. 

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg, where funeral services will commence at 11 a.m. Conducted by Rev. Mike Ashman.

Burial will follow in Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Donald D. Nelson

Donald Dean Nelson, 87, of Guttenberg passed away, April 3, 2025, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Donald Dean Nelson was born on July 28, 1937, in Lamont, the son of Theodore Peter and Hazel May (Wenger) Nelson. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1957-1960. Donald married Carma Loma Shuman on Dec. 26, 1964, in Marion. Donald worked for Churchill Trucking and retired in 1994 after 16 years of employment.  He was a member of Teamster Local 238. Donald enjoyed wood crafts and motorcycling.

Marilyn Yvonne Nielsen, 88, of Elkader, passed away on March 6, 2025, at the Elkader Care Center from congestive heart failure. 

Funeral services and visitation were Saturday, April 5, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, conducted by Rev. Paula Anderson.

Inurnment was at East Side Cemetery in Elkader.
