Elizabeth (Betty) Brownson

Elizabeth (Betty) Mary Henry Brownson died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, at the Elkader Care Center. She was 96. Betty was born at home to Albert and Rose (Balzell) Henry on April 11, 1929, near West McGregor. She was baptized May 26, 1929, received First Communion and celebrated confirmation, all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in McGregor.

Linda Ferguson Cranston

Linda Ferguson Cranston was born on a beautiful, crisp, Sunday morning on Sept. 17, 1944. Her parents were Loel Ferguson and Mary Albaugh Ferguson. They lived briefly in Montezuma, until Loel bought a farm south of town. She grew up on the farm. She loved animals, bottle-fed calves, had a herd of cats and a dog named Porchy. She met the love of her life in high school, and she and David dated four years before eloping to marry.

Innovative command van will improve county’s emergency response efficiency

Clayton County E911 Coordinator Sam Rumph and Emergency Management Coordinator Sarah Moser stand in front of the new command van on display at the National Night Out event on Aug. 5. They worked together to design the new command van that will improve efficiency, safety and collaboration in emergency situations in Clayton County.

Clayton County’s command van will replace the outdated command trailer and improve emergency response efficiency and collaboration. Upgrades include interior and exterior lights, a speaker system, three work stations, three screens and self-contained internet and radio capabilities.
