In a week that took on extra significance for the Central Warriors football team because of homecoming, they did not disappoint, delivering a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback victory to defeat the West Central Blue Devils 56-48. It was the team’s first win of the season and first win since Sept. 14, 2018.

“It feels really good to get that first win. The kids were really excited and I know that my coaching staff and myself were very excited as well. I think homecoming added a little bit more to it, but I try to treat every game the same,” coach Joe Koehn said after the game.

It was a happy ending to MFL MarMac’s homecoming week, as the Bulldog football team rolled to a 40-14 victory over Starmont on Friday night.

“The kids came out ready to play this week,” said head coach Dan Anderson. “It was a dominating performance by our defense, and offense and special teams played pretty well too.”

Central cross country excels at Waukon

By Willis Patenaude, Times-Register

The cross country team contributed to Central’s remarkable week in sports, putting in exceptional performances at the Waukon meet Sept. 22, where ribbons were won, personal times were bested and school records fell.

The high school girls ran in the JV races, a decision that was made “to give all of our runners a chance to run as a group and get a feel for where they are within the group. We thought that could give them a chance to focus on each other and gain some experience toward what we need to work on as a team to be our best down the road in October,” said assistant coach Martha Bauder.
