Bulldogs score victories over NFV, Postville

Kaden Stocker singled, walked, knocked in a run and scored three times in MFL MarMac’s game one doubleheader victory against NFV on June 21. The Bulldogs swept the TigerHawks that night, picking up two of their three conference wins last week.

After an uncharacteristically tough first inning, Havlicek rebounded to hold NFV scoreless in the following three innings of game one of a doubleheader. He gave up six hits and three walks, in addition to hitting a batter, while striking out seven.

Shortstop Jacob Schellhorn was part of a stellar defensive effort by MFL MarMac last week.

Harold H. Landt

Harold Helmuth Landt, 83, of Luana, died Thursday, June 24, 2021. He was born Feb. 21, 1938, to Herman and Alvina (Mueller) Landt at the family home. Harold was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor Schlueter. He attended Luana Consolidated Schools through the eighth grade.

LeRoy M. Schmidt

LeRoy “Smitty” Max Schmidt, 92, of Manchester, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Smitty was born March 11, 1929, in Strawberry Point, the son of Mike and Agnes (Schuchmann) Schmidt. He attended elementary and high school at Strawberry Point, graduating in 1946. During high school, he worked for Jessen’s Super Market, delivering groceries. Smitty was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country honorably for two years, being stationed in Germany and serving in the office of his captain.

LuVerne L. Krambeer

  LuVerne Lester Krambeer, 92, of Monona, died Friday, June 18, 2021, at his home in Monona. He was born Oct. 31, 1928, to Lester and Phyllis (Drahn) Krambeer in Wagner Township, rural Luana. He was baptized on Dec. 9, 1928, by Rev. Gerhard Bunge and confirmed on Jan. 10, 1943, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. LuVerne attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Monona High School in 1947, where his baseball team were state champion runners-up.

Victoria A. Merritt

Victoria Ann Merritt, 62, of Strawberry Point, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 24, 2021, at her residence, surrounded by family, after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born Oct. 30, 1958, to Gene Edward and Janice Joan (Zapf) West in Prairie du Chien, Wis. Vickie was a 1977 graduate of Central Community High School and attended Hamilton Business College for accounting. Through the years, she worked for H&R Block and the offices of the Wayne County Hospital and L&M Tire.

Dorothy Jean (Crawford) Schmidtke, 92, passed away at the Elkader Care Center on Friday, June 18, 2021, surrounded by her loving children. She was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Cedar Falls, to Harold and Edna (Tibble) Crawford. She graduated from Waverly High School in 1945.
