Shepherd of the Hills thrift store available for everyone in need


The Shepherd of the Hills clothing center, now referred to as thrift store, has served the community since 1985, providing assistance to those in need of clothing, housewares and a variety of other items.

There will be a grand opening clearance sale at the thrift store on Saturday April 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Luetta Jean Maehl

Luetta Jean (Hansel) Maehl, daughter of Frederick Hansel and Cora Dell (Hyde) Hansel, was born Oct. 28, 1928, at Osterdock. She was baptized in 1946 by Reverend Paul Kitterer and, in 1948, affirmed her baptismal faith in confirmation at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church in Elkader. She was a graduate of Elkader High School in 1946.

Michael A. Froehlich

Michael A. Froehlich, age 75, of Marquette, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, Wis. He was born in Wesley on March 27, 1947, the son of Carl and Wilma (Siepmann) Froehlich. Michael served in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he worked as a mechanic before becoming a police officer in Emmetsburg. He then served as the chief of police in Monona, before becoming the deputy sheriff in Clayton County in 1990.
