Todd Alan Wilker, 53, of Garnavillo, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2016, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.

Visitation was Friday, Feb. 19, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.

A private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Todd was born on Dec. 4, 1962, in Prairie du Chien, Wis., the son of Kenneth and Gaye (Frye) Wilker.

Emmett A. Pins, 67, of Luxemburg died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at home surrounded by his family.

Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 14, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville and one hour before services.

Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 15, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg, conducted by Rev. Richard Gaul.

Carol Anne Jacobs, 78, of Guttenberg, was called to heaven on Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, from the Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque.

Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 11, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 12, at United Methodist Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Neil Hofer.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Dick Cole of Waterloo was in Guttenberg recently to promote an upcoming dance at Lakeside Ballroom and stopped at The Guttenberg Press to present a photograph he took of legendary rock 'n' roller Buddy Holly.

Feb. 3 marked the 57th anniversary of Holly's tragic death in a 1959 airplane crash following a show at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake.

Council mulls staffing matters

At a special meeting on Monday, Feb. 8, the Guttenberg city council discussed personnel issues, staffing options, and continued to work on the budget for the coming fiscal year.

The council approved the appointment of Virginia Saeugling, former council member whose four-year term expired in December. She fills the unexpired term created by the resignation of councilman Dave Schlueter, Clayton Ridge School business manager,  who is now a shared-time employee of the city.

Kramer purchases dentistry office

While walking on River Park Drive with Dr. Jim Osterhaus, Guttenberg dentist, Dr. Maggie Kramer was astonished by all the greetings, waves, and jokes shared between the dentist and his community. 

Osterhaus has practiced dentistry in Guttenberg for 32 years, and recently sold his office to Kramer. He’s not yet retiring and will work alongside Kramer for the foreseeable future. “Maggie is a caring and meticulous dentist. This is clear when you first meet her,” said Osterhaus.

Nearly 100 people attended Guttenberg’s annual Eagle Watch & Cabin Fever Day, held in the Marina Visitor Center on Saturday, Feb. 13. An ice carving demonstration, chili cook off, and raptor presentation were the highlights of the day, supplemented by games and environmental education for children and adults. The event was organized by Guttenberg Development and Tourism (soon to be known as Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce) and co-sponsored by Divine Current Massage and Natural Gifts.

LaVerne C. Bouska

LaVerne C. Bouska, 86, of Lawler, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at his home.

Visitation was Monday, Feb. 8, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler, and before services on Tuesday.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb 9, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, conducted by Rev. Nick March. 

Interment will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Military honors will be conducted by the Lawler American Legion.

Neil Ace Webster, 95, of Guttenberg, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at the Guttenberg Care Center. 

Visitation was before services at the church.

Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 5, at the United Methodist Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Michael Jackson.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.
