Betty R. Stickfort

Betty Ruth Stickfort, 91, of Garnavillo, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 9, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Gary Hatcher. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

Sylvia Marie Schaub, 96, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. John's Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at the Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Council acts on ATV/UTV resolution, amends open burning ordinance

The Guttenberg city council at its regular monthly meeting on Oct. 2 approved the operation of ATVs and UTVs in the city limits with restrictions, heard a presentation from a wholesale power provider seeking a partnership with the city, authorized an increase in council and mayoral compensation and made changes to the city's open burning laws.

Guttenberg merchants are getting into the Halloween spirit once again with Ghouls and Goblins Night Out. The seventh annual event, scheduled for 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, gives adults the opportunity to celebrate Halloween and support Guttenberg businesses.

Parkinson's Awareness Walk Oct. 7 in Ingleside Park

The second annual Parkinson's Awareness Walk will be held the morning of Saturday, Oct. 7, in Guttenberg's Ingleside Park.

The event is hosted by the Parkinson Awareness Group of Clayton County in conjunction with Team Hope of the National Parkinson Foundation.

Participants are invited to register at the north gazebo on River Park Drive in Guttenberg beginning at 9 a.m. The walk will begin at 10 a.m. There is no registration fee; free will donations are welcome.

The Clayton County Pork Producers held their annual banquet Saturday evening, Sept. 30, at Johnson's Reception Hall in Elkader.

The evening featured a pork dinner, door prizes, and a program that opened with the welcome and introduction of guests by Kristin Oberbroeckling.

A highlight of the evening was the crowning of Tracy Curran as the 2017-2018 Clayton County Pork Queen by the current queen, Megan Glawe. The new queen is the daughter of Raymond and Rhonda Curran of St. Olaf.
