Betty Rose Kuhlman, 94, of Edgewood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. 

Visitation will be from 3-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood and also one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Colesburg, conducted by Pastor Joan Thomas.

James E. Leliefeld

James Edward Leliefeld, 61, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017.

Visitation was Friday, Jan. 5, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and before services at the church.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 6, at United Methodist Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Neil Hofer.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Richard J. Clefisch

Richard James Clefisch, 80, died at home on Jan. 3, 2018, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Per Richard’s wishes, there was no visitation. Services were Saturday, Jan. 6, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home in Guttenberg, followed by the committal service at Ceres Cemetery, and a light lunch in St. John’s Lutheran Church basement.

Shannon joins service expedition in Altimira

Guttenberg resident Patrick Shannon, son of Dan and Joan Shannon and younger brother of the late CPL Stephen Shannon, joined the Travis Manion Foundation on a service expedition to a small village in Altimira, Dominican Republic in late November. Shannon spent a week there bonding with others who have experienced the loss of a family member in the service, and the group of 19 built a home for an Altimira family from start to finish.

Larene A. Backhaus

Larene Anna Backhaus, 98, of Guttenberg, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at the Guttenberg Care Center, where she had resided since November 2005.

Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 29, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Harold McMillin. Visitation was before services at the funeral home.

Interment was at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

It is not the years in your life but the life in your years that counts.

Mark Robert Anderegg, 49, died on Nov. 19, 2017, in Raleigh, N.C., after battling lung cancer.

Visitation was Dec. 30, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Ruth E. Von Fumetti, 75, of Dubuque, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Luther Manor, Dubuque.

Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, Dubuque.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 3, at the Church of The Nativity, Dubuque, conducted by Rev. James Miller.

Schedule change for Guttenberg Press

Press readers who are accustomed to picking up their weekly issue on Tuesday morning or early afternoon will now have to wait until late Tuesday afternoon to catch up on the news.

Effective with last week's issue, The Press began being printed at Graphics, Inc. in Calmar. Since 1999 The Press has been printed at Mississippi Valley Printers, Inc., in Prairie du Chien, Wis., but the closing of that plant has necessitated the move.

Chamber welcomes new director

The Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce welcomes a new director this month in Mandy Ludovissy, who took over after the resignation of former director Emily Sadewasser in September. “I really love Guttenberg – the natural beauty, the comfort of raising my family in a small town, and the people,” Ludovissy told The Press. “I want to do all I can to encourage people from every generation to connect, to work together and to grow together.”
