Rotary pledges $10,000 to Wave of the Future

The Guttenberg Rotary Club has announced a multi-year, $10,000 pledge to the Wave of the Future campaign for a new swimming pool. Funds will be distributed from the annual payout of the club’s endowment fund, The Rod and Mary Jo Tangeman Family Foundation for Guttenberg Rotary, and fundraisers like an upcoming trivia event.

After 17 years with Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, CEO Kim Gau submitted her resignation to the board in December. This month the hospital board plans to appoint a CEO search committee, which will include both GMH Trustees and Mercy Health Network (MHN) Executives.

Mayor Frommelt hopes to create new momentum

For the first time in seven years, residents of Guttenberg are transitioning to a new mayor. Bill Frommelt was sworn in on Monday, Dec. 5, and took over for outgoing Mayor Russ Loven at the start of the new year. Frommelt is a Guttenberg native who has returned to the area and hopes to revive the liveliness the community held in his youth.

Kyle R. Dettmann

Kyle Russell Dettmann, 45, went to join his family in heaven on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, from the Guttenberg Care Center. 

Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Gary Hatcher. Visitation was before services at the church.

Interment was at Clayton Cemetery.

Betty R. Kuhlman

Betty Rose Kuhlman, 94, of Edgewood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. 

Visitation will be from 3-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood and also one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Colesburg, conducted by Pastor Joan Thomas.

James E. Leliefeld

James Edward Leliefeld, 61, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017.

Visitation was Friday, Jan. 5, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and before services at the church.

Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 6, at United Methodist Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Neil Hofer.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Richard J. Clefisch

Richard James Clefisch, 80, died at home on Jan. 3, 2018, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Per Richard’s wishes, there was no visitation. Services were Saturday, Jan. 6, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home in Guttenberg, followed by the committal service at Ceres Cemetery, and a light lunch in St. John’s Lutheran Church basement.

Shannon joins service expedition in Altimira

Guttenberg resident Patrick Shannon, son of Dan and Joan Shannon and younger brother of the late CPL Stephen Shannon, joined the Travis Manion Foundation on a service expedition to a small village in Altimira, Dominican Republic in late November. Shannon spent a week there bonding with others who have experienced the loss of a family member in the service, and the group of 19 built a home for an Altimira family from start to finish.
