Mercy Health Network seeks to replicate GMH Family Resource Center statewide

In 2017, Guttenberg Municipal Hospital’s Family Resource Center assisted 83 families with food, 198 families with clothing, and 42 families with children at Christmas. Infant items such as strollers, car seats, and beds were given to 19 families, and household or hygiene products were provided 161 times over the course of the year. All this and more were done under the coordination of Kari Harbaugh with help from 23 adult volunteers and 15 student volunteers, who gave a total of 1,251 hours of their time.

Joyce Hedemann, 90, of Monona died Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader.

Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, and before services at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Living Faith United Methodist Church, Giard, conducted by Rev. Deb Parkison.

Adella C. Hoeger died on Feb. 23, 2018, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital, Guttenberg, following a brief illness.

David W. Rolston

David Wayne Rolston, 75, of Bluffton, Ind., passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 17, 2018, at Markle Health and Rehabilitation. 

Visitation was Saturday, Feb. 24, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Bluffton, followed by a memorial service conducted by Pastor Jeremy Russell. 

Goodwin – Cale and Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton was in charge of arrangements.

City Manager Denise Schneider serves on two housing-related boards aiming to address those very challenges in Guttenberg, and she sat down with The Press to explain the various acronyms, audiences, and purposes of the two.

City signs contract with new electric power provider

The Guttenberg city council at its regular monthly meeting on Feb. 12 signed a contract with a new wholesale electric power provider, raised current electric rates, okayed improvements on DeKalb Street in conjunction with Casey's expansion, and heard a request from a new business.

Raymond L. Meyer

Raymond L. Meyer, 73, died Feb. 4, 2018.

Services will be private at a later date.

Raymond was born Nov. 27, 1944, to Charles and Helen Meyer. He attended Guttenberg Community School and served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. He was a welder at John Deere for 30 years.

Dorothy C. Lutz

Dorothy Clare Lutz, 99, a resident of the Guttenberg Care Center and formerly of Vinton, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, following an extended illness.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Dorothy Baum was born April 24, 1918, in rural Benton County to Dewey and Ethel (Donley) Baum. She was united in marriage to Marion G. Lutz on May 14, 1938. They farmed north of Keystone for many years.

A brand new mentoring program for youth in the Clayton Ridge School District is taking shape this month with grant funds from HAWC Partnerships for Children. The program is the first of its kind in the area and was inspired by a community needs assessment.
