Kris R. Jones, 45, of Patch Grove/Dodgeville, passed away after a long illness on Oct. 16.

Kris was born on Jan. 30, 1970 to Richard and Janet (Matousek) Jones from Patch Grove. Kris graduated high school in Patch Grove. Kris spent many of his working years as a superintendent for Ryan Inc. of Janesville. He later moved to Dodgeville, and worked for Quality Liquid Feeds for a few years. Kris enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.

Norma Catherine (Schoulte) Mitchell, 82, of Prairie du Chien, passed away on Friday, Oct. 16, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, due to complications of a stroke.

She was born on Sept. 22, 1933 in Farmersburg Township to Oliver and Lydia (Handke) Schoulte.

She grew up on the family farm near National and this is where she developed her life-long love of plants and birds.

Judith A. Underhill, 71, of Bagley, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.

She was born Dec. 6, 1943, in South Dakota, the daughter of Vernon (Nitzie) Cleveland and Grace (La Vern) Dusso. Judy graduated from Beloit Memorial High School. She was united in marriage to Larry J. Underhill on Aug. 28, 1976, at the United Methodist Church in Rockton, Ill. After spending many years vacationing in Bagley, they decided to move there. Larry and Judy owned and operated the Sportsman’s Tap Tavern in Bagley. Judy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and bird watching. She dearly loved spending time with her family.

Public votes on several facilities upgrade options for PdC Schools

With a pair of all day Advisory Task Force meetings on Thursday and Friday of last week at Bluff View, and again on Tuesday night in the high school auditorium, the possible April 2016 referendum for facilities upgrades and exceeding the revenue cap is coming into the decision phase for the Prairie du Chien School District.

Seneca secures Ridge and Valley Conference crown

The Seneca High School volleyball team clinched the conference championship last night, Oct. 13, in front of their home crowd.

Coach Dawn Ray’s Indians defeated La Farge three games to one to secure the Ridge and Valley Conference title outright. The girls now have a 6-0 conference record and are 9-4 overall.

La Farge dropped to 6-3 in conference play, 6-4 overall, and are currently tied with De Soto for second place in the league.

Seneca will travel to Wauzeka-Steuben Thursday night, Oct. 15, to take on the Hornets (5-7) for the final conference match of the regular season.

The Green Bay Packers have announced Aaron Amundson of Prairie du Chien High School has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Football Coach of the Week.

Amundson, who is in his seventh year as the head coach of the Prairie du Chien football program, led the Blackhawks to a 44-43 victory Friday over conference powerhouse Lancaster. The victory marked the program’s first win over the Flying Arrows since 2004 and secured at least a share of the Southwest Wisconsin Conference title, a feat they haven’t achieved since 1988.

Prairie du Chien will now host the 7-1 River Valley Blackhawks for a chance at sole possession of the conference championship.

“We are blessed to have a great group of seniors who have been playing a lot of varsity ball over the past few years,” said Amundson. “These young men endured some hardships over time and it’s a testament to our players for buying into what we’ve been asking of them over this past year.”

Breast feeding videos downloaded locally lead to Florida woman’s arrest

A Florida piano teacher was arrested last week after authorities discovered she was trying to sell sexual breast-feeding videos.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department found out about Leigh Felten, 31, of Tallahassee, when a Crawford County man downloaded several videos and paid for them using a PayPal account.

Felten was arrested on Friday, Oct. 9. The videos displayed Felten breast feeding an infant and rubbing oil on herself and the child and other sexual acts, the sheriff’s department said. According to court documents, the video “was clearly not done for the purpose of education or artistic display. Based on the content, and the fact it is being sold by Felten, it is clear this video is for sexual purposes.”

Stolen work trailer recovered, Highland man arrested

The Prairie du Chien Police Department has recovered a work trailer that was stolen from Prairie du Chien in late August.

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, the police department traveled to Stoughton to follow up on a lead of the previously stolen work trailer, which had about $20,000 worth of construction tools inside when it disappeared.

The two officers who traveled to Stoughton found the trailer parked at a Days Inn. They immediately contacted the Stoughton Police Department and requested their assistance in the investigation. After the Stoughton Police Department arrived, identification of the trailer was made through phone calls and pictures sent to the police department. Upon identification, the trailer was seized and towed to a secure location in Stoughton for further investigation.

On Friday, Oct. 9, officers returned to Stoughton and towed the trailer back to a secure location in Prairie du Chien for further investigation.
