Esther Kathryn Breuer

 

Esther Kathryn Breuer, 97, of Glen Haven, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Atrium Post Acute Care in Lancaster surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born Feb. 22, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Clementine (Herbers) Bohnenkamp. Esther attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Bloomington, graduating 8th grade, and came home to work on the family farm. She also spent her time cleaning homes and assisting families when new bundles of joy arrived.

June Rose Burns [nee Huecker]

 

June Rose Burns [nee Huecker], 92, of Dodgeville, formerly of Platteville, died on Thursday, Nov. 19. 

She was born on Nov. 12, 1923 in Mt. Prospect, Ill., to Richard and Amanda (Linnemann) Huecker. June graduated from Arlington Heights Township High School, Ill. in 1941. She married James J. Burns (Jim) on Feb. 17, 1945 in Brooklyn, N.Y., ten months before Jim was discharged from the Navy. They resided in Wheeling, Ill. where they had three children, Theresa, Alexis and Daniel. June worked as secretary for the University of Illinois Extension Office in Rolling Meadows, Ill. She was also a 4-H leader.

Kevin Nicholas Beach

 

Kevin Nicholas Beach, 11, of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Monday, Nov. 23. 

He was born July 4, 2004 in Prairie du Chien the son of Steven and Mindy (Trefren) Beach. He currently attended class at the Bible Baptist Church in Prairie du Chien. 

He is survived by his parents, Steven and Mindy of Prairie du Chien; his brother James Ray Loge; his paternal grandparents, Walter and Jackie Beach of Prairie du Chien; his maternal grandmother, Wilma Trefren of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Joseph Trefren.

Hunter accidently shoots house window

On Nov. 22 at 7:42 a.m., the Crawford County Dispatch Center was notified of a window being shot out of a house on Bluff Wilderness Lane in rural Prairie du Chien Township.  

Crawford County deputies and Wisconsin DNR investigated the incident. It was learned that Terry L. Tesar, 54, Prairie du Chien, was hunting when he pulled up his gun to shoot a deer. Tesar hit and killed the deer but the bullet traveled through the deer and went approximately 140 yards and struck the window of an occupied residence. No one inside the residence was hurt.  

Tesar faces possible trespassing tickets and the incident remains under investigation.

Wauzeka woman charged following crash

 

On Nov. 22, at 4:21 a.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 report of a one-vehicle rollover crash at the intersection of Highway 179 and Swatek Ridge.

First Responders and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department arrived on scene and determined that Justine Duha, 21, Wauzeka, was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Swatek Ridge approaching the stop sign at Highway 179. Duha was unable to stop her vehicle at the intersection, lost control and skidded sideways across Highway 179. Duha’s vehicle skidded sideways to the shoulder then flipped over on its top into the ditch.

Duha was transported to Crossing River’s Health by Tri-State Ambulance for minor injuries. Duha has been charged for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant and operating a vehicle without insurance.

Assisting on the scene were the Eastman Fire Department, Eastman First Responders, Tri-State Ambulance and Bob’s Towing.

Deer hunter dies following heart attack

On Nov. 21, the Crawford County Dispatch Center was notified of an 85-year-old man who had suffered an apparent heart attack while hunting.  

James Evers of Madison died from an apparent heart attack while walking with his son on property on Byers Road in Scott Township.

Evers’ 61-year-old son from Peoria, Ill. was performing CPR when the Boscobel Fire and EMS responded. Evers was transported to Boscobel Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Coroner Joe Morovits.

Man killed in fall from tree stand

On Nov. 20, at 6:13 p.m., the Crawford County Dispatch Center was notified of an individual who had fallen out of his tree stand on property located on Sunset Ridge in Eastman Township.

Dennis Kiefer, 51, Oconomowac, died from injuries suffered after he had fallen approximately 15 feet out of his tree stand while bow hunting.

Eastman Fire and EMS responded with four wheelers and a UTV to get to the victim. Tri State Ambulance was also called to assist and transported Kiefer to Crossing Rivers Health where he was later pronounced dead by coroner Joe Morovits.
