David Lee Bird, 68, of Denver, Iowa formerly of Wauzeka, died Tuesday, June 30, in Waterloo, Iowa. 

David Lee was born on Nov. 15, 1947 in Prairie du Chien, to Donald and Mildred Bird. He graduated from Wauzeka High School in 1965. 

David was self-employed, working with modular homes throughout Iowa and Wisconsin. He also was a bar owner. David was known by many as “Fuzz.” He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports and spending time with friends. David was a member of the Moose Club in Beloit, and the NRA.

For the spectators lining Highway 27 at 11 a.m. on July 11 in Seneca, there will be a moment when the line of tractors stretches to the southwest, breaching the horizon created by the hill on the way out of town. It’s an iconic moment of farming pride that can only be seen at the annual Ridge and Valley Rally parade.

Chris and Tammy Olson, the third generation owners and operators of Olson Feed Service, will serve as this year’s King and Queen of the rally.

But things get underway much earlier in the day. Each year’s rally begins with a 5K/10K walk-run at 7:30 a.m. The top three male and female runners in the 5K and 10K will receive medals.

The parade line-up goes on until a half-hour before the event. Entry is only $10 per person and $5 for children 14 and under.

The race begins and ends between the Seneca School softball and baseball fields on Taylor Ridge Road.

The Prairie du Chien Common Council met on Tuesday, July 7, at 7 p.m.

A large portion of the evening was devoted to sorting out finances. The Prairie du Chien Memorial Library Capital Campaign gift solicitation, donation and recognition policies were discussed. The library staff recommended the council adopt the policies, which will be applied to the Capital Campaign for the proposed expansion and upgrade of the library.

Alderman Ron Leys noted that the library should not be renamed just because someone donated a large sum of money to help fund the renovation.

City Attorney Tom Peterson responded that the library name could not be changing as it was stipulated to remain the same as a condition of the money it received from the Wacouta will.

Jim Chambers, 69, formerly of Prairie du Chien, passed away in Kent, Wash. on July 5.

Jim was born in La Crosse to Stan and Jane (Norton) Chambers on May 26, 1946. He graduated from Campion Jesuit High School in 1965 and the University of Santa Clara, Calf. in 1970 with a masters in business administration. He worked in electronic sales for many years and currently owned a consulting business for cable systems. He enjoyed golf, coin collecting, movies, music, and was an avid Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks fan.
