The Prairie du Chien Economic Development Corporation has announced plans to open an office in downtown Prairie du Chien, at 129 E. Blackhawk Ave. (former Kate's Hair Studio location). Established in 1951 as the Industrial Development Corporation, the organization is the oldest public/private non-profit corporation in the city. Since 2010, the organization has operated as the Prairie du Chien Economic Development Corporation and continues to establish itself as a leading organization for economic development for the city and southwest Wisconsin. The organization continues working behind the scenes on a number of projects that will eventually help benefit the community. “Unfortunately, most of what we do is sensitive in nature and cant’ be discussed openly to the public,” stated Bob McDonald, president.

On Dec. 4, at 9:20 p.m., the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a one-vehicle crash on Limery Road about one mile east of State Highway 35 in Prairie du Chien Township.

Edward Stubbe, 56, of Prairie du Chien, was eastbound on Limery Road driving a 1997 Chevrolet S10 truck when Stubbe hit black ice. Stubbe lost control of the vehicle and hit the north side embankment causing the air bags to deploy. Stubbe was extricated from the vehicle by Bridgeport Fire and transported to Crossing Rivers Hospital by Tri- State EMS for treatment of his injuries.

Assisting on scene were the Bridgeport First Responders, the Crawford County Highway Department and Bob’s Towing.

A 30-year-old Bagley man has been charged in Crawford County Circuit Court with one count of possession of a firearm by a felon and one count of misdemeanor bail jumping.

Dustin R. Hampton, a convicted felon, faces up to $35,000 in fines and 10 years, nine months imprisonment if convicted of both counts.

According to the criminal complaint, on Nov. 25, a Crawford County sheriff’s deputy responded to Bouska Road in the town of Bridgeport for a vehicle that had run out of gas.

Hampton’s driving privileges were suspended and the deputy offered to drive the vehicle to the Walmart parking lot where it could stay until someone could come drive the vehicle and Hampton home.

“Whether you voted for the (April facility) referendum or against it, we want to hear from you.”

That was the notion expressed by River Ridge District Administrator Jeff Athey, who addressed more than 30 district residents attending the public long-range planning session Tuesday morning at Ma’s Bakery in Bloomington.

The gathering was the third of five public meetings scheduled between Dec. 2 and Dec. 10 at various community gathering facilities around the district. No major discussion took place, though attendees were asked to anonymously write down their opinions about certain aspects where possible improvement may be necessary, including academics, facilities, communication, extracurricular activities, and more.

They could also sign up to be part of sub-committees in these areas.
