Myra J. Wroble

 

Myra J. Wroble, 89, of rural Harpers Ferry, died Monday, May 4, at Great River Care Center in McGregor. 

Myra Jeanette Wroble was born May 31, 1925, in Auburn, Neb., the daughter of Oscar Andrew and Amy Roberta (Flau) Rogers. She graduated from Auburn High School in 1943, and attended Doane College in Crete, Neb., for two years. On Feb. 13, 1946 she married Robert David Wroble in Kansas. Myra worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., Montgomery Wards and several hospitals doing office work. She and Robert managed a mobile home park in Marion, Iowa. Myra and Robert moved to the Harpers Ferry, in 1995. She enjoyed playing the organ, gardening and spending time in the outdoors.

PdC Half Marathon


Three competitors run along South Beaumont Road in the Prairie du Chien Half Marathon Saturday morning. The event also included a 5K run/walk. All of the participants, sponsors, and volunteers are greatly appreciated by race organizers. Overall half marathon winners were Steve Slade, of Appleton, 1:24.28; and Amber Uhlenhake, of Spring Valley, 1:31.29. River Valley and Westby defeat Prairie du Chien

Prairie du Chien lost to visiting River Valley 9-1 in nine innings in an SWC softball game Friday afternoon. 

River Valley got on the board first with a run in the top of the fourth inning to go ahead 1-0. 

Prairie tied the pitcher’s duel with a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Enjoy a night out and help kick cancer to the curb

The Great River Relay For Life is hosting a Cancer Kickin’ Concert Saturday, May 9, from 7 to 11 p.m., at Huckleberry’s Banquet Facility in Prairie du Chien. The Back Home Boys will entertain the crowd throughout the evening and, about halfway through their set, there will be an auction. The highlight of the auction is a 2014-15 Wisconsin Badgers men’s autographed basketball.

Support the local food pantry and help “Stamp Out Hunger” again this year by donating a bag of non-perishable food to the Letter Carriers Food Drive Saturday, May 9. Sponsored by the United States Postal Service, National Association of Letter Carriers and Feeding America, residents of southwest Wisconsin are encouraged to give what they can to help those in need.

Leah Jane Koch, 35, died Friday, May 1, at the Dove Healthcare Center in Eau Claire. She passed in the loving arms of her mother and husband after a long and difficult battle with brain cancer.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1980 in La Crosse to Lenny and KarLen (Gifford) Heisz.

Last night the Prairie du Chien girls soccer team played against River Valley. Although the score (10-0) did not favor Prairie, the girls never quit and worked to get a couple of good drives to the net.
