The Wauzeka-Steuben Hornets opened up their 2026 season last Thursday, March 26 when they traveled to Richland Center and were met with a tough challenge in sophomore pitcher Kyree Fischer.

Fischer showed why she is already one of the toughest pitchers in the SWC by throwing a perfect game with 13 strikeouts as the Richland Center Hornets defeated W-S by the score of 10-0 in 5 innings.

Brianna Ray (six runs allowed (two earned) on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched) took the loss on the mound. Alayna Krachey (four runs allowed (all unearned) on two hits, two walks and one strikeout in 1.0 inning pitched) finished the game on the mound for the visiting Hornets.

The schedule does not get any easier this week as the defending D5 state champion Belmont Braves make the drive to Wauzeka this Thursday afternoon for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference contest before the Hornets start conference play at Ithaca next Monday, April 6 at 5:00 p.m.
