MFL MarMac boys basketball players Carter Lightfoot and Wesley Corlett have garnered Upper Iowa big division all-conference honors.
Lightfoot, a senior, was a unanimous selection and one of three athletes named conference player of the year. He was also named to the Class 2A All-Substate Team for Substate 4 by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.
He played in all 22 games for the Bulldogs, leading the team and UIC big division with 489 points—an average of 22.2 per game. Lightfoot’s 166 field goals were second most in the conference, and he made 45.9 percent of shots overall. He was also a major threat from behind the arc, connecting on 51 of 138 three-points attempts—ranking him second on the team and third in the UIC. From the free throw line, Lightfoot hit 85.5 percent of his 124 chances, putting him first among conference players in attempts and makes.
Along with 64 rebounds and six blocks, Lightfoot dished out a team- and conference-leading 126 assists, or 5.7 per game. His 48 steals also led MFL MarMac and were the sixth highest total in the UIC.
A second team selection, Corlett was the Bulldogs’ second leading scorer, amassing 276 points, or 12.5 per game, in 22 games. He had an impressive 50.4 field goal percentage. Corlett also supported the offense with 53 assists, an amount that trailed only Lightfoot.
The senior was the top rebounder for MFL MarMac and in the Upper Iowa Conference big division. He brought down 215 total—including 141 defensive rebounds and 74 offensive—and averaged 9.8 per game.
In addition to his rebounding efforts, Corlett aided the Bulldog defense with 40 steals—ranking him second on the team and ninth in the conference—and 39 blocks. The blocks were tops among Bulldog players and third most in the UIC.
