Three girls basketball players from MFL MarMac’s Upper Iowa Conference big division championship team were recently named all-conference. Freshmen Olivia Driscoll and Blair Winter were both first team selections, while junior Samantha Ruff was a second team pick.
Driscoll was a unanimous selection after leading the Bulldogs and ranking second in the conference’s big division with 307 points—an average of 13.3 per game across 23 games. She was second among conference players in field goal attempts and completions, after connecting on 112 of 273, or 41 percent. Driscoll was also the UIC big division’s best three-point shooter, making 49 of 129 for a 38 percent clip, and had the second-best free throw percentage, making 75.6 percent of her 45 tries.
Additionally, Driscoll led MFL MarMac and was fifth in the conference with 50 assists, averaging 2.2 per game. She was among team leaders with 41 steals and finished the season with 70 rebounds and one block.
In 23 games, Winter racked up 271 points, or 11.8 per game. The total was second most on the team and fourth best in the UIC big division. Winter hit 100 of 239 field goal attempts and was also one of the conference’s top free throw shooters after making 73 percent of 89 chances.
Winter finished the season with 141 rebounds, which was tops on the team and sixth in the conference, and averaged 6.3 per game. Of those, 73 were defensive rebounds and 71 offensive.
The freshman dished out 39 assists and ranked second on the team and sixth in the UIC with 51 steals. Her 27 blocks were most among the Bulldogs and second most in the conference.
Ruff played in all 23 games for MFL MarMac. She was the team’s third leading scorer, at 120 points, and made 30.8 percent of shots overall. Her 13 three-pointers were second most on the team.
The junior collected 86 rebounds and supported the offense with 44 assists, a number that was second highest on the team and eighth most in the UIC big division. Ruff was also a key defender with 60 steals and 12 blocks. The steals were a team high and fifth most in the conference, while the blocks ranked her second among Bulldog players and fifth in the UIC.
