The Central/Clayton Ridge girls wrestling team went 1-1 in duals and had four athletes on the podium at a tournament last week.
The Warriors started the Jan. 13 dual meet at Waukon strong, defeating North Fayette Valley 36-12. There were double forfeits at 100, 110, 145, 190 and 235 pounds, then Central/Clayton Ridge secured wins by forfeit with Kendall Wagner (115), Luz Hernandez (130), Mylee Mueller (155) and Ava Abbott (170). Mayleigh Medberry (125) and Maci Keppler (135) pinned their opponents.
The TigerHawks’ points came on a fall over Warrior Addison Davis at 140 pounds and a forfeit at 105.
Waukon got the best of Central/Clayton Ridge 60-24 in the final dual. The Indians benefited from nine victories by forfeit. Their only win in a wrestled match was at 170 pounds, over Abbott.
The Warriors picked up their points with falls by Wagner and Keppler. Medberry and Mueller won their matches via forfeit.
The team racked up 57.5 points at the Jan. 16 Postville Girls Wrestling Invite, placing eighth of 12 schools.
Wagner and Mueller were runners-up in their respective 115- and 155-pound brackets. Medberry finished third at 125 and Davis was sixth at 135. Hernandez did not place at 130 pounds.
This week, the Warriors competed in the Cougar Girls Invitational at Sumner-Fredericksburg on Jan. 20, then they’ll head to North Fayette Valley for the Upper Iowa Conference Tournament on Jan. 24.
