The Seneca Royals girls basketball team opened up a five-game homestand on Monday, Nov. 24 when they welcomed Highland to town. The visiting Cardinals took a 21-11 lead into halftime before pulling away in the second half for a 40-26 win over the Royals.

Sophomore Lily Payne led Seneca in scoring with 11 points while also grabbing four rebounds and collecting three steals. Senior Camryn Lenzendorf added six points, six rebounds and three streaks while junior Emma Manning contributed with six points, three rebounds and three steals. Also getting into the scoring column was sophomore Grace Varo with two points and senior Dhyllan Kemp with one point. Kemp also grabbed six rebounds in the loss.

The Royals welcomed the Brookwood Falcons to Seneca on Monday, Dec. 1 and the visiting Falcons left with a 48-40 victory. The Royals were led in scoring by Lenzendorf with 11 points. She also grabbed four rebounds and had three steals in the loss. Manning was the team’s second leading scorer with seven points to go along with her team high eight rebounds. Kemp (six points, four rebounds), Payne (four points, five rebounds and three assists), Varo (four points and two steals), junior Rita Sime (four points) and senior Aylah Baker (four points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals) also scored for the Royals.

Boscobel came to town the following night, Dec. 2 and the Royals earned their first win of the season by defeating the Bulldogs 44-40. Varo led a very balanced Seneca scoring attack with nine points. She was followed by Kemp with eight points, Manning and Lenzendorf with seven points each, Payne and Baker with five points each and freshman Sophia Clark rounded things out by scoring three points for her first career varsity points. The Royals were led in rebounding by Lenzendorf (seven), Manning and Kemp (five each), Payne and Baker (four each), Varo and Clark (three each) and Sime (one). Payne added four assists in the win.

Seneca wrapped up the week last Friday, Dec. 5 when they hosted Westby. The visitors held a slim 19-17 lead at halftime before the Royals outscored Westby 24-15 in the second half as Seneca earned a 41-34 win for their second consecutive victory of the season. Payne was the Royals leading scorer with 12 points. She was followed by Kemp (nine points, three rebounds), Baker (nine points, four rebounds), Varo (six points, two steals), Lenzendorf (three points, four rebounds and five assists) and Clark (two points, three rebounds). Despite being shutout points wise, Emma Manning managed to make her presence felt on the court as she grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out four assists in the win as the Royals improved to 2-4 for the season. Next up for Seneca is their conference opener this Thursday when they host Kickapoo at 7:15 p.m.
