Coach Michael DiPadova and his River Ridge girls basketball team opened up play in the Six Rivers conference last Tuesday night against visiting Benton, sending the Zephyrs home with a 62-30 loss.

On the following Friday evening the Lady Timberwolves improved to 2-0 in conference play with a 48-27 victory over host Juda, as games between Six Rivers West and Six Rivers East teams count as conference games in both boys and girls basketball action this season.

Against the visiting Zephyrs last Tuesday evening coach DiPadova’s Timberwolves held a convincing lead of 32-11 after one half of play before outscoring their opponent 30-19 in the second half.

Ava Nies led the Timberwolves with 20 points, scoring 11 in the first half and nine in the second, while hitting seven field goals and going 6-of-8 from the free throw line.

Chipping in 13 points was junior Erin Adrian, while sophomore Adayah Groom added eight points and junior Kristina Sletten seven.

Last Friday evening, the Timberwolves traveled to Juda, where they held a 24-15 halftime lead before doubling up the Panthers, 24-12, in the second half.

Pouring in a team-high 18 points was Adrian, who knocked down seven field goals, including one 3-pointer, and went 3-of-8 from the free throw line.

Ava Nies finished with seven points, scoring four on two field goals in the first half and then going 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the second half.

Kristina Sletten chipped in six points and McKenzie Taylor had five, while eight different players put up points for DiPadova’s squad.

Following this past Monday night’s home game against North Crawford, the Timberwolves will travel to Shullsburg Thursday night.
