The Prairie du Chien boys wrestling team won 11 of 13 weight classes enroute to earning a 65-12 season opening dual win at De Soto last Thursday night. Earning wins for the Hawks were Linus Wechsel (106), Keaton Achenbach (113), Tyson Fernette (120), Hunter Reid (126), Gage Hrubes (132), Brylee Brewer (144), Mason Hird (157), Brady Baumgartner (165), Jake Kramer (175) and Jack Simmons (285).
The Hawks were back in action two days later in East Troy at the Howard Manly Duals. Competing as the smallest school in attendance by a considerable amount, Prairie du Chien went 1-5 on the day. PdC started the tournament off with a 41-38 win over Kenosha Indian Trail before falling to Beaver Dam 44-33, Delavan-Darien 40-39, Burlington 37-34, Waukesha West 52-17 and Mukwonago 64-11.
Hird and Simmons each went 6-0 on the day, while Reid went 5-1. Four of Hird’s wins came via technical fall, while four of Simmons’ wins came via pinfall.
Also wrestling for the Hawks on Saturday were Wechsel (0-6 at 106), Achenbach (2-4 at 113), Fernette (1-5 at 120), Hrubes (2-4 at 132), Thiry (2-4 at 138), Brewer (1-5 at 144), Baumgartner (1-5 at 165), Kramer (2-4 at 175), Payton Beinborn (0-4 at 190) and Hunter Pohle (1-5 at 215).
Prairie du Chien is back in action this Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Woodside Dome in Wisconsin Dells for the Duals in the Dells Tournament.
