Hornets beaten by pair of SWAL teams

The Wauzeka-Steuben boys basketball team opened up their season last week. First up for the Hornets last Tuesday, Dec. 1 was a visit by the Southwestern Wildcats, who entered the game ranked ninth in D5 and they showed why they are ranked in the top 10 by defeating the Hornets 72-49. A pair of Wildcat players combined for 48 points, nearly matching the Hornets scoring total by themselves.

Wauzeka-Steuben was led by senior Cooper Lomas, who had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. Fellow senior Theo Millin added 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Josh Martin added nine points and five rebounds while senior Julius Cooley (three points and seven rebounds), sophomore Bentley Dums (two points and two rebounds) and senior Clint Mitchell (one point and four rebounds) rounded out the Hornets scoring.

The Hornets hit the road to Fennimore two nights later to take and the Golden Eagles and were defeated 48-34. Game stats were not available as of press time.

W-S was scheduled to begin conference play last night at De Soto before returning home this Friday, Dec. 12 to host the Weston Silver Eagles at 7:15 p.m.
