The baskets at Fennimore High School were not kind to the Timberwolves of River Ridge last Monday evening, as coach Michael DiPadova’s squad fell to the host Golden Eagles, 53-26, in a non-conference girls’ basketball contest.

With the loss, River Ridge fell to 1-1 early in the season, while Fennimore improved to 3-0 with the victory.

Shots did not fall easily for the Timberwolves early in Monday night’s contest, as River Ridge had a stretch of 13 consecutive missed baskets, while watching the home team add to their lead.

After one half of play, the Timberwolves found themselves trailing 32-11, and were unable to make up any ground in the second half, where they were outscored 21-15.

Sophomore guard/forward Ava Nies led River Ridge with 10 points, scoring six of her team’s 11 points in the first half on two 3-point baskets.

Junior Erin Adrian chipped in five points, three coming in the second half, while Kristina Sletten, Danica Hampton and Layla Gage finished with three points each.

Following this past Tuesday night’s home conference opener against visiting Benton, the Timberwolves will next travel to Juda on Friday night, then will host North Crawford on Monday, Dec. 8.
