 May 19, 1933-October 1, 2025

On Oct. 1, 2025, Roger McCullick, age 92, was called by our Lord and Savior after a brief illness, joining his beloved wife, son, and other dear family and friends in eternal life.

The funeral service were held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Chris Simonson officiating. Family and friends are invited to the Blue River Community Building for food and fellowship after the funeral. Burial will follow at Gays Mills Cemetery, Gays Mills.

Apart from the last (fourteen) years in Blue River, Roger was a lifelong resident of the Steuben area. His deep love and loyalty to family were evident early in life when, after completing the sixth grade, he left school to work as a farmhand alongside his father. Though he sacrificed his own education at the time, he later became a strong advocate for formal schooling. While raising his children, Roger served on the Wauzeka-Steuben Board of Education, including several years as President, and eventually earned his GED from SWTC to set an example for his family.

Growing up during the Great Depression and World War II, Roger learned the value of hard work and providing for his loved ones. Over the years, he held many jobs, including positions at American Motors in Kenosha, Oscar Mayer in Madison, Turner construction across Wisconsin, and as owner and operator of the Sinclair service station in Steuben. Despite the distance some jobs required, he remained rooted in Steuben to give his family stability and to pass on the values of southwest Wisconsin. Later, with his wife Patsy, he purchased the home farm where they raised their children. Afterward, he worked for the Crawford County Highway Department until his retirement.

Roger was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, proudly cheering for the Milwaukee Brewers every spring and summer before shifting his loyalty in fall and winter to the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. A former baseball player in the local hardball league, he also loved fishing, especially his annual family salmon trips to Two Rivers, as well as hunting, playing cards, and family gatherings. A devoted cribbage and euchre player, he never missed an opportunity for a game. Whatever he did, it was always centered around family.

Roger was born on May 19, 1933, in Bell Center, WI, the son of Eva (Anderson) and Ole McCullick. On Nov. 15, 1955, he married Patsy Walters, daughter of Edwin and Lorna Walters of Wauzeka.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy; his son, Gary; his parents and in-laws; and his brothers and sisters-in-laws Bob (Jannette), Ted (Martha), Gordon (Linda), and Dale (Ardis); as well as brother-in-law Bud Walters and sister-in-law Ann Romanek (Milfred)

Roger is survived by three children: Barb (Wally) Reichmann, Rita (Matt) Cox, and Karl (Cathy) McCullick; his brother Greg (Pat) McCullick; special friend Joyce Weadge; brother-in-law Francis (Mary) Walters; and sister-in-law Lucille Walters. He is also remembered with love by 11 grandchildren — Jason, Robin, Angie, Dustin, John, Nick, Jaden, Sarah, Brooke, Candice, and Kelly — and their families, along with 28 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Recently, a friend who heard Roger was ill said, “That’s so sad, he’s such a kind soul.” That kindness is the legacy Roger leaves behind, cherished by his family and all who knew him.
