The visiting Seneca-Wauzeka-Steuben Bluegolds jumped out to 27-6 halftime lead on the host Iowa-Grant Panthers during the last Friday night’s Six Rivers Conference opener and never looked back as they claimed a dominating 40-20 road win as they improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The visitors scored three touchdowns in the first quarter to go up 21-6 after one quarter before outscoring the Panthers 6-0 in the second quarter. S-W-S added a touchdown in both the third and fourth quarters as I-G was held to two touchdowns in the second half.
The Bluegolds did their damage on the ground as they rushed 45 times for 300 yards and four touchdowns as a team in the win. S-W-S’s rushing attack was paced by Hunter Hagensick (18 carries for 132 yards) and Carson Sime (19 carries for 105 yards and three touchdowns) with Cooper Lomas adding eight carries for 63 yards and one touchdown. Lomas was 1-for-3 through the air for 2 yards. Hagensick was the recipient of the lone completion.
Defensively, the Bluegolds got a 62-yard fumble recovery touchdown from Gage Wall and two interceptions (Hagensick and Wall) in the win.
