Don J. Koss

Don J. Koss, 95, of Guttenberg, completed his earthly journey on May 10, 2025, at the Guttenberg Care Center surrounded by his loving family.
To honor Don’s life, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 23, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Family and friends of Don are invited to join in fellowship from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be in the Garnavillo Community Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Garnavillo American Legion.
Don was born on Nov. 14, 1929, in Garnavillo, to Arnold and Alice (Diers) Koss. He was born and raised on the family farm in Garnavillo. Don met and married the love of his life, Elaine Hill, and the two were blessed with 72 wonderful years together and two children, Lori and Tim. Don honorably served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Alaska before being sent to Colorado Springs. He was a proud member of the Garnavillo American Legion, a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of the Garnavillo Boosters. He was an avid fisherman, Euchre enthusiast, and loved storytelling with all who would listen.
Don leaves behind his loving wife, Elaine Koss; two children, Lori Koss (Daryl Koehn), of Garnavillo and Tim (Melanie) Koss, of Discovery Bay, CA; two grandchildren, Greg (Jenny) Lovell, of Dyersville and Jamie Albrecht, of Winthrop; three great-granddaughters, Kallie, Samantha, and Eleanor. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a daughter-in-law, Susie Koss.
