Hurdles continued to boost the MFL MarMac boys track and field team in meets at Clayton Ridge and Starmont last week.

The Bulldogs won or placed second in all three hurdle events at the Clayton Ridge Boys Invite on May 1, contributing to the team’s 105 points. They placed second overall, trailing only the 148 put up by Sumner-Fredericksburg.

One of the victories came in the 110-meter hurdles, where senior Carter Streicher ran a time of 16.46 seconds, out-pacing teammate Tucker Ruff’s 17.33 time. Carter Stoddard finished third in 17.68 seconds, to give MFL MarMac all the top spots.

Ruff earned another second-place result in the 400-meter hurdles, while the shuttle hurdle relay claimed the meet title by 12 seconds.

MFL MarMac won two other relays—the 4x200 and sprint medley—and placed second in the 4x100 and fifth in the 4x800.

More strong finishes came in the 100-meter dash, where Anthony Bunting was second and Averey Thornton sixth. Dante Thornton placed ninth in the event.

Rylan Schroeder and Blake Schutte were a respective eighth and 13th in the 200, and the pair snagged the fifth and eighth spots in the 400, while teammate Hunter Bogdonovich crossed the finish line 10th.

In the 800-meter run, Adian Reynolds, Bogdonovich and D. Thornton filled spots 11 through 13. Reynolds also represented the Bulldogs in the 1600, where he placed 12th.

Parker Kuehl launched himself to first place in the long jump, his distance of 21-01.5 nearly two feet greater than the runner-up. Carter Lightfoot took the top spot in the high jump with a height of 6 feet. His closest competitor reached 5-06.

A. Thornton and Jaxon Millage were a respective fifth and sixth in the shot put, with Schutte following in ninth place. Millage threw his way to seventh in the discus, ahead of A. Thornton in 12th place.

The Bulldogs amassed 30 points, placing seventh of 10 teams at the May 2 Starmont Invitational that included some tough competition. Jesup won the meet with a score of 110.

There were more top-five performances in the hurdles, as Streicher and Ruff turned in third- and fifth-place times in the 400-meter race. The two were a respective fourth and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, while Stoddard took eighth. The three were also part of the third place shuttle hurdle relay, one of only two relays MFL MarMac participated in that night. The Bulldogs were 10th in the sprint medley.

Kuehl continued dominance in the long jump, hitting a distance of 20-00.5 feet, nearly a foot more than the runner-up. In other field events, A. Thornton was 13th in the shot put, followed by Millage in 14th and Schutte 16th. Millage posted a 10th-place throw in the discus, ahead of A. Thornton in the 21st spot.

In the sprints, Schutte and Bunting tied for 19th place in the 100-meter dash, and D. Thornton was a few steps back in 23rd. Schroeder and Bryce Jones went eight-nine in the 200. The 800 included three Bulldogs, with Schutte 14th, Reynolds 17th and D. Thornton 19th, then Reynolds turned in a 10th-place time in the 3200.

MFL MarMac welcomed other teams to Monona for the MFL MarMac Boys Invite on May 5, then will host the Upper Iowa Conference meet on May 8, hoping to repeat as conference champions.
