With a 10-4 victory over the host Vikings last Friday evening, coach Andrew Redman and his River Ridge baseball team began play in the extended Six Rivers conference on the right foot and are off to a 1-0 start.
The Timberwolves pounded out 10 hits to their opponent’s five in Friday night’s conference opener, as both teams got off to a hot start offensively.
River Ridge kicked off the contest by plating two runs in the top of the first inning, while Pecatonica answered in the bottom of the first with three of their own.
The Timberwolves then scored two run in the top of the fifth, while giving up one in the bottom half of the inning, and added two more in the sixth before a four-run explosion in the seventh.
Of River Ridge’s 10 hits, the top three batters in the lineup accounted for seven.
Lead-off batter Carter Copsey went 2-for-4 with four runs scored, while Andrew Nies went 3-for-5 with a two-run single in the seventh.
Batting third in the lineup, Cael Koenig went 2-for-2 with one run scored and a walk, while also picking up five RBIs on a two-run single in the first, a two-run single in the sixth and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
River Ridge’s two runs in the fifth were scored on a wild pitch and a passed ball, while Ty Adrian scored in the seventh on a passed ball.
Blake Reynolds, who started the game on the mound for River Ridge and went 4.1 innings, gave up four runs, two earned, off three hits, while striking out seven batters and walking five.
It was Carter Copsey though who collected the victory, giving up no runs off two hits in the final 2.2 innings, while striking out two batters and walking none.
Last Tuesday night the Timberwolves traveled to Wauzeka, where they handed the host Hornets a convincing 11-0 loss in six innings.
After scoring two runs in the top of the first, one in the second and two more in the fourth, coach Redman’s Timberwolves erupted for six run in the top of the fifth on two hits, three walks, two errors and a hit by pitch.
Of River Ridge’s seven hits Tuesday night, Carter Copsey and Cael Koenig each had two, Copsey with two runs scored and one RBI, and Koenig with one run scored and two RBIs.
Blake Reynolds led the team with three RBIs on a two-run double in the first inning and a ground ball in the fifth.
Andrew Nies had two RBIs on the day, one on a ground out in the fourth and another on a single in the fifth, while Kameron Reynolds and Noah Copsey each had one RBI in the victory.

Last Thursday night, River Ridge hosted the Golden Eagles of Fennimore, who left town with a 7-0 non-conference victory.
In a seven-inning shutout, the Timberwolves were limited to just two hits, both coming from lead-off batter Carter Copsey.
Fennimore pitcher Ethan Sheckler struck out 15 batters and walked three in five innings of work, while Brock Henkel and Macoy Miles combined to strike out four more River Ridge batters and walk none.
On the mound for River Ridge, Cael Koenig took the loss, giving up five runs, two earned, off three hits in five innings of work. He also struck out five batters and walked three before being replaced in the sixth by Ty Adrian, who gave up two unearned runs off three hits.
Following this past Monday night’s road game at Barneveld and Tuesday night’s home game against Potosi/Cassville, the Timberwolves will host Argyle/Black Hawk Thursday night.
