Mary Don Olson

Mary Don Olson, age 82, of Prairie du Chien, passed away on April 13, 2025 at Boscobel Care & Rehab in Boscobel.
She was born on April 11, 1943 to Donald and Bess (Allison) Malven of Manchester, Iowa. She married Gary G. Olson on June 5, 1966 at the United Methodist Church in Fayette, IA. Mary Don worked as a physical education teacher at the West Grant School High School (now River Ridge) in Patch Grove. A short time after Mary Don and Gary moved their family to Prairie du Chien, Mary Don became a learning disabilities teacher and continued until the time of her retirement. Mary Don was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Prairie du Chien. She enjoyed creating the bulletin boards around the church and participating in many church activities. Family was very important to Mary Don and she thoroughly enjoyed being a grandma and great-grandma. Mary Don also kept close with many of her students as she learned as much from them as they learned from her. Mary Don and Gary were able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 2016. Mary Don is survived by her children Amy Birch of Superior, Eric Lee Olson of Wauzeka, and Audre (Chad) Hein of Blooming Prairie, Minn., her grandchildren Miranda (Kevin) Miller, CJ (Kaylie) and Joshua (Meshon Baxter) Hein, and Liam Sullivan. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren (with two more on the way) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mary Don was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lois and her husband Ronnie Schnoebelen, brother Craig Malven and his wife MaryLou and their two children Joni and Jimmy, brother Jim Malven and his wife Ruth, son-in-law Robert Sullivan, and her husband Gary.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 17, at 11 a.m. in the Garrity Funeral Home chapel, Pastor Zachariah Bloom officiating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
