March 17, 1938–April 1, 2025

Leonard L. DuCharme, age 87 of Rockford, Ill., passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Alden Park Strathmoor in Rockford following a lengthy struggle with cancer. 

He was born in Prairie du Chien on March 17, 1938, to Leonard D. and Clara (Honslik) DuCharme. 

After schooling in Prairie du Chien, Leonard served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Upon returning home, he relocated to the Rockford area, where he worked as a saw sharpener for many years until retirement. 

He then sold antiques from “Hidden Treasures” in Rockford for 20 years after retirement. 

Growing up in the 4th Ward in Prairie du Chien, Leonard enjoyed spending time on the Mississippi River. After losing his father at a young age, he made many dear friends in his neighborhood. 

Leonard was ambitious, always finding new hobbies and jobs to keep him busy throughout his life. He is survived by his sisters Patricia Lenzendorf and Charlotte Johnston and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Mass of Resurrection was held on Wednesday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, with Fr. Brandon Guenther officiating and burial in the Calvary Cemetery. 

Military Honors were accorded graveside by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family. www.garrityfuneralhome.com
