The outdoor season got underway last week for the MFL MarMac girls track and field team, who competed in meets at Postville and Starmont.

The Bulldogs scored two team points at the April 8 Bossom Lady Pirates Relays, led by a pair of top-10 finishes in the distance races by freshman Charlotte Meyer. Meyer was fifth in the 1500-meter run and ninth in the 800. Teammate Bayleigh Wood was 18th in the 800, while Audrey Ruff took 16th in the 1500.

Lauryn Sandstrom had MFL MarMac’s best result in the sprints, placing 10th in the 400-meter dash. Wood crossed the line 15th. Sandstrom also competed in the 200, finishing 22nd, ahead of Amelia Duffield in 24th place and Annaka McArthur in 27th. In the 100, Lucille Kessler, Ruff and Brooklyn Tonn were a respective 25th, 27th and 30th.

The field events saw Tonn in both the shot put, where she finished 16th, as well as the discus, where a throw landed her in 18th place. Isla Henkes was 19th in the shot put, while Ruff earned 17th in the discus.

MFL MarMac headed to Starmont April 10, improving the team point total to 26, which was good for sixth place. The night included a pair of runner-up finishes, as Kensey Ball cruised to second in the 200-meter dash and Meyer was second in the 1500-meter run.

Addison Corlett claimed sixth in the 100 hurdles.

The relays were highlighted by a third-place result in the distance medley, thanks to Corlett, Sandstrom, Ball and Meyer. That group also powered the Bulldogs to fifth in the 4x400. Corlett, McArthur, Ball and Sandstrom earned sixth in the sprint medley.

MFL MarMac will compete in two meets this week, at Waukon on April 15, then at home on April 17.
