The MFL MarMac boys soccer team improved to 3-1 last week, securing two more victories over Northeast Iowa United and Bellevue, but losing to Marquette Catholic.
A Parker Kuehl goal got the Bulldogs on the board early in the first half against Marquette Catholic on April 7. The Defenders responded with three goals in the half, however, then tacked on three more in the second half, to win 6-2. MFL MarMac’s second goal came from Eli Hanson.
The Bulldogs took four shots on goal, including three from Kuehl and one by Hanson. Carter Lightfoot earned an assist.
MFL MarMac keeper Carsten Pester tallied 12 saves versus Marquette Catholic.
On April 8, the Bulldog offense erupted with seven goals in a shutout of Sumner-Fredericksburg-based Northeast Iowa United. Four scores came in the opening half and three in the second.
MFL MarMac made a whopping 19 shots on goal, including five for Lightfoot, who accounted for three of the team’s seven goals. Kyler Nuehring connected on two goals and Brent Roe and John Martins-Saboria each reached the net once.
Kuehl was responsible for a pair of assists, while Lightfoot, Nuehring, Roe and Wolfgang Martins-Saboria each collected one.
Northeast Iowa United struggled to generate offense against the Bulldogs, making just three attempts on goal. Pester snagged one save.
MFL MarMac earned its second win of the week—2-0 over Bellevue—on April 11. Kuehl and Roe each scored a goal against Comet goalie Nolan Dunne, who made four saves. Bellevue had just three shots on goal versus Pester.
The Bulldogs hoped to carry that momentum into the loan match this week, at undefeated North Fayette Valley on April 14.
