November 6, 1936­­–March 21, 2025

 Danial L. Slaughter, age 88, of McGregor, Iowa, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, at Great River Care Center in McGregor. 

Dan was born to Jesse and Geneva (Moore) Slaughter on Nov. 6, 1936, in McGregor, where he spent his entire life. 

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, known for his dedication to family and his passion for sculpting, antique collecting and selling, building and modifying Model T cars and hunting. 

A lifelong resident of McGregor, Dan rarely ventured far from the place he called home, cherishing the close-knit ties of family, friends and neighbors. His warmth, kindness and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. 

Dan is survived by his grandchildren, Tom Thiede of Prairie du Chien  and Nathan Slaughter (Cindy Carlson) of McGregor; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Tyler (Hailey Dinatalli); great-great-grandchild, Aria Beth; and his brother, Bud Slaughter of McGregor; and many beloved nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly Shulka Slaughter; daughter, Theresa Thiede; his parents, and brothers Claire, Bill, Jim, and Scotti “Butch”; and sisters Lullabell, Bernice and Emmajean.

A private graveside service for immediate family and close friends was  held on March 24 at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Prairie du Chien.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The family wishes to express their gratitude to caregivers Peggy and Perre Abel, Mary and Fred Thro and his close nephew Danny Shulka.
