With convincing victories over Boscobel and Juda last week, coach Jim Wagner and his River Ridge boys basketball team continued their winning ways, improving to 12-2 in Six Rivers conference action and sitting 17-2 overall.
On Monday, Feb. 3, the Timberwolves hosted the Bulldogs of Boscobel, sending them home with a 77-36 non-conference loss.
Coach Wagner’s squad had a relatively good night shooting the ball, knocking down 34-of-73 (46.6 percent) shot attempts, which included 3-of-14 (21.4 percent) from long range.
The Timberwolves, who applied full-court pressure the entire first half, got off 30 more shot attempts than their opponent, and outscored them 62-16 in the paint. In transition, the Timberwolves scored 35 points and converted 31 Boscobel turnovers into 44 points.
River Ridge also pulled down 22 offensive rebounds, which led to 14 second-chance points for the Timberwolves.
“I thought we controlled the boards on both ends in the first half, that turned into second-chance points and also allowed us to push it up the floor,” said coach Wagner. “We had several kids coming in off the bench that did a good job at both ends of the floor.”
Brandon Davis led the winners with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. He also pulled down eight rebounds to go along with six assists and five steals.
Ty Adrian was close behind with 16 points, five rebounds and four steals, while Andrew Nies chipped in 12 points, to go along with a team-high 10 rebounds, six assists and seven steals.
On the following Friday night, coach Wagner and his Timberwolves traveled to Juda, where they handed their host a convincing 91-41 conference crossover loss.
The Timberwolves held a halftime lead of 54-25 before outscoring their opponent 37-18 in the second half.
Shooting the ball well as a team, River Ridge knocked down 41-of-77 (53.2 percent) total shot attempts, including 6-of-20 (30 percent) from long range.
Juda committed a whopping 30 turnovers in the contest, which River Ridge converted into 35 points, while the Timberwolves came away with 25 total steals.
Elliott Thornton led the Timberwolves with 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the floor, while also pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Davis added 18 points, four steals and a team-high eight assists in the victory, while Carter Copsey chipped in 14 points and Noah Copsey 11.
This Thursday night the Timberwolves travel to Belmont, then host Highland on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
